You can change the icons by editing the ui, but you can't make the same type bag have a different icon. So you could make every bag that uses the handmade backpack icon into a white backpack, but not 1 white, one blue, one red, etc.

New Colorful Bags?

why not make colors be a new type of aug, and the only thing they work on be the bags? then any bag can be colored without having to go and change all the old recipes...
color augs can be Brewed & made by alchemy.. same trivs as prismatic dyes..
they could be called something like
jar of *insert color* dye
recipes would be fairly simple,
Dye jar - made by pottery (same way prismatic vials are)
Concentrated *insert color* liquid
-sub combines
-dye jar
block of clay, water flask, large Jar sketch
*note this recipe currently makes http://www.eqtraders.com/items/show_...=2122&menustr= which has no known use...just change the item name, and Voila.. an old recipe with a use!
-Concentrated *insert color* liquid
any of the old dyes would work here, steamfont dye, berry dye, etc... just need 3 of the base item (3 honey berrys + water flask)

Simple Answer. Code change.
Currently bags cannot accept augments. AND augments don't change the "Drag Icon"Ngreth Thergn

I haven't used a hand made backpack in over 4 years, because the capacity is worthless. Any container I use has to be 10 slot giant capacity, and the ones that I actually carry with me need 100% weight reduction. At the moment I am filling out my collection of master's tradeskill bags from the PoR trophies to replace any heavier bags I was carrying before.
What I'm saying is, many of us won't get to use colored bags, unless we get some that are better than hand made backpacks, or gain the ability to color existing bags of all types

Because these would be larger bags I think it might be appropriate for them to either use multiple pelts of some sort, or perhaps for them to use a larger pelt of some sort. There's scads of pelts already in the game that could be used -- Giant panda pelts of various grades, polar bear skins, etc. -- so he shouldn't be stuck with using the same pelts used in the regular tailored backpacks.Uncle Shmoozo

edit because I changed idea:
1- use a new drop like butterfly wings, nice and shiny and colorful
2- Add pixie dust or fairy dust to original 10 slot backpacks for a random chance on a colored backpack
3- make a quest to obtain a item to add color to a backpack. Maybe involving magical creatures such as fairies, pixies, sporalies and unicorns. Be nice though is such a quest would be level dependent so that all levels could get a chance at doing it.Last edited by Artemisia; 10-27-2006, 11:47 PM.

Well, in that case, then I guess there's all kinds of options, eh? Cured silk backpacks, panda pelt packs, grizzly bear skin satchels, thick grizzly bear skin satchels, werewolf pelt packs, kodiak pelt packs, polar bear skin packs, jumjum stalk satchels ...
Man, the list is pretty much endless. I suppose the easiest thing to do is to work out a recipe that will use materials already in the game, but you'd still need to sort out ... well, all kinds of stuff.
(By the way, I was kidding about the jumjum stalks ... mostly)

You know I like coming up with work for you, Ngreth.
Can a potion use a bag as a reagant? So you could use the colorful potion icons to make dye vials which consume a normal bag and return a colorful bag.
Er. Make that a compacted backpack! I'm a bit scared of what would happen to the contents of a bag if it got eaten as a component in a spell.I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.

I know this is tradeskill board and all, but why not simply add a vendor to sell the colored bags, similar to tink bag. Make 1 style inexpensive but very heavy like bazaar bags, make another style lighter weight but vastly more expensive. cheap bags go in bank (buy many) expensive bags you carry to sort as you loot (1 of each).
easy fix to colored bags

Why not just add a person(s) like Caerlyna or whatever her name is in baz..
hand them a bag.. depending on which person for color.. they hand the same bag back to you w/ a colored graphic..
somewhat like the horse people, except with a different item/resultDdemons Ddemise
