  • Bazaar: Vendor + Buyer capabilty

I dont know if this is the right forum for this but since I use bazaar almost exclusively for tradeskill items, im posting here.

Is there any way we can get them to consider merging the vendor and buyer functions so they can be active simultaneously?

I dont really know why its not this way already, but it should be.

The whole purpose of baz is to bring buyers and sellers together in order to facilitate trade.

The effect of having constant buyers means a much more stable economy. Right now baz is completely dominated by supply siders. This change would be good because it would crack the demand side of the market wide open.

Trade would no longer be restricted to being in the right place at the right time when an item is being offered (luck). It creates efficiency because transactions would no longer be based on luck, but instead on free information and availability. This would eliminate price spikes and alleviate price discrepancies, both of which are good things.

Its Win-Win, and I cant understand why its currently restricted to Either/Or.

Because there originally was no barter function when the bazaar went live, and it was introduced later. So the trader function was not designed with the capability of doing both. Maybe they could change it, maybe they couldn't. But that's the reason it is like it is.

i have 2 accounts and run one with a /buyer and one with a /seller any time i'm not actually playing (which isn't much, lately, darn RL anyway).

biggest problem i see with being a /buyer is, People don't check ! or they are too lazy or in a hurry to go visit the buyer side. i consistently find people selling in /trader for less than i'm paying for items. good deal for me, sure, but that's why i have a /buyer!

when i find one of these people i try to send a tell reminding them to check /barter first. not that it's helped at all =p we are all creatures of habit.

        You prove my point.

Thats because the baz is completely dominated by sellers.

At any given moment on my server (Emarr) there are about 300+ sellers and about 8-11 buyers. The amount of inventory being sold compared to being bought makes checking buyers a waste of time. If you have 80 items to sell, its simply not worth it to check if each item is listed under buyer because the probability is that no one is buying.

If they would combine vendor and buyer functions, we would see 300 sellers and 300 buyers. The number of items bid would increase dramatically, and searching the buyers would no longer be a waste of time.

Transactions would occur more frequently and we are better off.

I'd very much like to see the maze that the bazaar is now cut down and bit and a shorter walk between the red and blue sides at least. I run 2 traders and 1 buyer and I absolutely hate running from one side to the other with Run Zero.

On trib when I decide to check buyers I honestly just hit the search key without typing anything in, I rarely hit too many results. Making it a dual function makes sense, and would only help the economy. As it stands now half the buyers are people who just price every high ticket item they can think of at 1/8 it's value in case they get lucky.

Just the opposite of Prexus, it's rare if I don't hit too many results. Since searching Barter sucks, if you're not one of those people it lists, you're effectively screwed out of any chance at ever seeing something from your buylines sold to you.

I like the idea of making people choose, but would love to see a "What are people buying" function, where it searches your inventory and compares it to the buylines.

unfortunately its this way on bertox as well
rarely is anything being bought at all, and when there is they are at ridiculous prices
                  Arctic Wyvern Hide? 5silver per
                  Diamonds? 100 per or so
many of the items are so low i dont even think twice before selling to a merchant if i have one (normal Diamonds are like this)
Blue Diamonds are a profit, but a very small one.. ill buy them and get a ~40-50p profit per, which isnt bad for me
but buyer and trader at once would be nice for us NON multiboxers (i *could* twobox for buyer and trader at once if i ever set up my trader or buyer, just would seriously tick off my friend (other account is his, but he never gets on because of school))

                    /sigh

It's most likely a "code" thing.

Meaning it's going to take serious programming effort to combine /barter and /bazaar ....

Which, most likely, means it won't happen.

Just thinking about some of the coding issues of trying it makes my head hurt...

                    1) If a buyer gets full they get turned off from buying. (to avoid dropping stuff)
                    2) But what if my "full buyer" sells enough to open a slot up, does that re-open my buyer....
                    3) What if, by accident, I set my buyer at 14 for bone chips and my seller at 13 ... whoops...

Don't look for this any day soon. It sounds nifty. So does making your driver's license / bank card / insurance card / work door swipey all in one. Until you start thinking about it too much.
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

Actually, I wouldn't go into combo buyer/trader mode if it did exist simply because don't have enough bag space to sell all of the stuff I want to sell now. There is no way I would want to leave open spaces to buy with.

BTW, if you run out of space while in buyer mode, it doesn't actually kick you out of buyer. You still advertise your buy lines, and people can still browse you. It just won't let someone complete the sell transaction. If you run out of money OTOH, it does deactivate buy lines you can no longer afford.

And speaking of deactivated buy lines - maybe I'm blind and missed it, but I don't recall a method to activate/deactivate all. When I run out of cash and refill, I end up manually reactivating every buy line one at a time.

I don't mind separate buyer and trader functions, but the search by buyer option on the /barter window doesn't work
