  • I love when a seller keeps buying...

my tradeskilled junk and try to resell at higher profit when I have more. Someone keeps buying up my master DoN gears that I made for skillup and tried to mark them up. Since I kept most of the stuff I made so the seller would end up havimg to buy a lot of my stuff before he starts getting any profit and those gears are not stackable.

It's now a matter of when this seller realizes this and stops buying my stuff or if I'll keep making money off farmed stuff and winding up with one irate reseller.

    I'm all for that

I had a couple of people buying my Druzzil bows off me when they first came out, and selling them for more.. problem for them was I could crank out 3-4 a day by checking vendors and the bazaar... after a while they stopped, and the only buyers were people using them.. but it was funny for a while... "soandso buys 1.. 2.. 3 bows"... put 3 more on... repeat. Eventually they catch on, but not as soon as they'd wished they had

I take a different approach with these kind of resellers. If it's items I produce in large quantity for skill ups I will want to get rid of them asap. Instead of waiting to see if he will just keep chain buying m untill he gets fed up I will contact him after buying the first few batches and try to work out a deal on my entire stock with a nice discount.

Bulk buy resellers are my favorite kind of costumers, they allow me to get rid of my overstocks and skill up products fast. I try to cut them deals they can make a profit on, and they often end up checking back with me later to purchase other goods in bulk. Working out well for me that way =)

I had a reseller offer to buy 2 Druzzil bows for 8k each less than my current price, presumably with the expectation of him then re-selling undercutting me. Needless to say, I declined the opportunity of being undercut by my own stock....

I had a chat with the said seller. She was selling hers high because she was buying the materials to make them while I farmed. She won't be buying any more of my master DON stuff.

I was doing that with Vials of Prismatic Dye for a while to try to crack the price-fixers who were trying to maintain a 100pp per price. Was fun. They bought literally 1000s of them in the process.

I had a few times where people did that for my bazaar trader.

One time I did end up selling all of my stock and for the price I was asking for it to a re-seller. I think it was MTP's, which I had at 5pp. That had been the server norm for a long time. Someone wanted to raise the price to 10pp. They ended up buying all 400+ of my MTP's, plus everyone else who put them up for sale. The price still stayed at 5pp because they could not keep up with everyone selling them.

Just keep matching his price - penny for penny. It'll drive him nuts.
But then give him a few days and I bet he'll undercut you by 'just a little bit'.
On some items, I have forgotten completely about the actual price of the item, to just compete with the '1pp less' crowd.

Oh that's what REALLY annoys me, big time.. People selling the same item for 1, 10, 100pp less...
Like you have a 55K item you're selling and some joker puts it up for 49900pp.

Now, when I buy - I put a bit of principle and logic behind it. I think 'do I like this type of person?' - the answer's no..

So why continue to trade with him? He'll stay around and keep doing it. So I just spend the extra plat.
1pp cheaper??? Oh come on, I'd rather just buy it for the full price, just for the point of it!! lol

<<<<--- Has sworn off ever buying items that are 1pp cheaper, lol. (unless, of course, they are items cheaper than 20pp, lol - then it's actual competetion.)

The purchase and resell tactic only works if you have little to no competition.

If you've got something like MTPs, where people crank 'em out by the 100's (I know I make my batches by the 100 combines), you're NEVER going to be able to do it effectively. All you do is end up with thousands of MTPs at market price, and those thousands of MTPs for sale at 10pp each which will never sell because no matter how many thousands you buy, there can be hundreds more made before you get back into Trader mode.

Now on something that is extremely rare and for sale rediculously cheap (For example: Discordant Scoria going for 25k), a profit can be realized by purchasing the underpriced merchandise and turning around and selling it, still undercutting market price by a generous amount and still making out like a bandit.

In the case of the Druzil bows, for example, it was a rather rare item at the time, so it was reasonable to assume that they could pull this trick off. Unfortunately for them (and fortunately for the crafter) the crafter could crank out enough to meet market demand at a lower price, thus setting the market price, and the would-be-reseller was left with lots of merchandise that he would have to take a loss on to sell.

In general, I don't like re-sellers. It just seems like a means of attempting to artifically raise the market price, and making a quick buck at the buyer's expense. I particularly don't like the attittude and tactics they normally employ while going about their business.

My second year of playign EQ was primarily a game of buy low/sell high. I played in the bazaar much more than any other zone.

I think it's all good. If someone wants buy me out and price higher, and I know I can make a mint selling to him, I keep selling. I might edge up my price slowly, see how long it takes before he balks, etc.

Sometimes I hinted at a desire to cooperate by matching his price. Sometimes I went into other markets for a bit.
                    Sometimes I bought him out.

The only time I didn't think it was a basic case of "all is fair in love, war, and bazaar" was if someone contacted me that they'd accidentally mispriced an item that I had bought and marked up. Once per person, I always allowed a re-do, and would return the item. Every once in a while it was obvious -- the price should have been 8,000 but it sold for 800, etc. I wish people had had the courtesy to do that for me when I made an error, and so I always tried to do what I wish would be done for me.

But it's a market, it's not a charity house. If you consistently underprice, you are asking someone to buy you out. And sometimes, asking someone to do that, to use up HIS inventory slots instead of yours and thus earn a profit for that scarce resource, was a good choice for me.

Agreed! lol. I so hate that. I don't mind being undercut at all if the potential buyers are getting a better deal. But I think 10pp undercuts on 100K+ goods and the like are just lame. When it happens to me I will just undercut m back big time in return... every 10pp they drop I will drop 10% of the item value. If they always wanna be the cheapest, I will make sure they end up really being cheap Usually it takes about a week untill these traders realize they make much more profit matching my price instead of trying to be 10pp cheaper than me.

On misprices I always return the item as well, and on misbuys I will refund people with their plat or trade them the correct item back. (GM symbols... people that accidently bought the wrong deity are quite common). I don't intend to make any profits of anyone else's mistake either.
Only people I refuse refunds to are the ones on my blacklist/ignore list. If I could add m to a list so that they couldn't buy stuff from me I would. Had a guy ranting about me in /ooc because he made a misbuy... had him on ignore for ages for good reasons so didn't see anything he said. happened to be on an alt when I catched his insults in ooc. Ended up logging my trader back in and offering the item he misbought with a 50% discount so he was forced to sell at a big loss. Cost me some plat but I found it well worth it, he gave me a chance to get back at him for training people on purpose and I took it lol.

I have often wished ignore had the power to block people from seeing items I had in trader/buyer. I mean.. if my cleric has someone on ignore, they will never get a rez from him, if my enchanter has someone on ignore, they will never get a kei from him, but if my trader has you on ignore.. oh well, normal shopping.
