  • I would like to see ...

Rangers get an aa ability that lets them extend their tracking capabilities to detect ground spawns.

Im a full time necro who has taken on por bows, and while I have been running around on a goose chase, it dawned on me that this would probably be an appropriate abilty.

As it stands, ranger tracking has been nerfed several times with untrackable mobs and the like, and in most cases its barely distinguishable from druid track, other than pure distance.

Would be nice to see them get something instead of losing it for a change, and it would improve the welfare of the general community as well.

Hoo rah for my ranger friends, maybe someone will read this and toss you guys a bone. Just none of mine =P

    What do you guys think?

I'd much rather have a tracking AA that marks a red X on my map where my tracked mob is, that'd be cool.

I wouldn't waste AAs on finding ground spawns, there's very little on the ground worth picking up (except for the mushrooms in Kaladim, thankfully I'm done with those forever).

      While not a bad idea....

      Major code change...

Items are not NPC's even items on the ground.

So not sure the feasibility of a major code change for this.

Rangers can also track by distance where druids can't. Rangers can filter track (green, blue, yellow, red), druid can't.

How in Karana's name would you 'track' a leaf, nut or stick?

i'm sorry, I hate this idea... Rangers already get forage. The point of groundspawns is so that non forage classes get a chance to get some of these items. All this would do is make sure Rangers got all the groundspawns and really ruin it for any other class.

Too late a ranger seems to have permacamped groundspawn in elddar on Maelin. Everytime I go there, the ground is all bare and a ranger is hiding near the log.

I could possibly see this ability at a very limited range, say within /corpse dragging range or close, just not horribly far from where you are at the time, but as this would have such limited usefulness, probably not something I would want to pay for.

Heh, the funny thing is I was just thinking about this this morning while I run around the zone looking for ground spawns (picking anything and everything up in case the next ground spawn becomes a branch).

Best I came up with (which still stinks) was a "sense ground spawn" spell - but that doesn't work either lol.

Outside of that, I can't really complain other than non invis classes needing to spend a fairly decent amount of plat to stay in this zone and look for ground spawns (darn giants with their KoS huddles right near the majority of spawns).

Speaking as a Ranger, I would have no use for the ability to track ground spawns at all. I cannot think of a single thing (that I want anyway) that spawns on the ground that I cannot forage, including the Elddar Forest stuff. Any Ranger that stoops to bogarting the ground spawns anywhere is just being lazy IMO.

Not that I've even tried it, just came to mind.

                    Rogue shroud ftw?

If invis is good enough, then it should be. Just a thought

Yeah, I didnt think it through. I agree with you. At least the ground spawns allow some competition instead of a monopoly.

                      Bad idea on my part.

                        A different alternative

Maybe instead of being able to track groundspawn, how about an AA skill Highlight Groundspawns. With it, any groundspawns will have a colored swirly disk thing under them, just like selected mobs do. That would be very helpful for those who are hunting yew leaves in WL (if anyone still does that anymore).

If they're looking for an AA to improve ranger tracking, how about Tracking Expertise I and II. First level will put a tick mark on the compass pointing to the mob, the second level will make a yellow floating ribbon thingy directing you to the tracked mob.
