Seriously? My druid has NB and my macro works just fine. All you have to do is put in two auto-inventory commands. Granted, you lose the possibility of making three forages in one macro, but it wasn't a big deal for me.

Actually, I have always considered the /pause to occur at the same time as the following command, rather than after it. The key to remember is that /pause is a social command, not a command line command.
So I look at it like this:
/pause 550, /doability 1 (wait 55 seconds before parsing next social line, forage)
/pause 550, /autoinven (wait 55 seconds before parsing next social line, put forage away).

Or if you wanted another way to think of it:
/pause is a social command that accepts 2 parameters separated by a comma. The first parameter is the length of the pause (in 1/10ths of a second) before the next social line is executed. The second parameter is the command line to execute as you pause.
That's probably a more accurate way of looking at it, which explains a number of the odd quirks that confuse people:
      1. You type pause first, but it occurs after (or simultaneous to) the following command (the command you are giving is really pause after you do this, not pause and then do this).
      2. Pause must be at the beginning of the command, not the end (/pause is a command for the social parser, not the command line parser)
      3. You can't follow a pause with a pause in the same line (because /pause is not a valid command for the command line).

By the way, you can have a series of pauses on different lines. This will pause 2 seconds before saying hello.
      Code:
      /pause 10
      /pause 10
      /say hello

I have timed the reset of the forage key to 102 seconds. I have attempted to set up a hotkey like the above, but with only one forage, and multiple /autoinventory on separate lines, like:

        /pause 500, /doability 1
        /pause 500, /autoinventory
        /pause 20, /autoinventory
        /tell *name* Hey, hit forage

The problem is, when I timed it, the actual forage refreshes about 20 seconds before the last /autoinventory or the tell occurs.

My understanding is that /pause 10 = 1 second. Is there some reason why this is not actually the case, or something nonobvious about the structure of the hotkey on why it doesn't work as it should? 102 seconds should be 1020 in pause time, and yet this does not reveal to be the case.

I am slowly reducing the times on the abilities and am now running something like /pause 480 x 2, then /pause 20, and I'm getting closer to the actual time when the real forage key refreshes. What gives?

Because the /pause of more than a few tenths of a second can get seriously "wonky" to use a technical term.

The pause is run from your computer, not the server. So if your computer gets "busy" (anti virus, running EQ in a second window-multi-boxing, etc) the actual time it takes may be longer then 50 seconds to run a /pause 500

"do a pause of X after executing Y" ... however you want to view it

Pause comes first on the command line, and the delay happens after the other command.

Pauses on multiple lines are even MORE likely to get wonky.

Autoinventory is not needed, it's just a handy command to do in making hotkeys. You can forage and extra stuff just stays on the cursor. (Or so i've been told. Been a VERY long time since I did extensive foraging.) So forage away with nature's bounty. Just remember to drop all the stuff off your cursor into your inventory before you zone. (Pretty sure if you zone with more than one thing "waiting" on cursor bad stuffs happen.)
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

            Forage Hot Keys

The one I use for multiple forages is:

            /pause 600, /doability 1
            /pause 420, /autoinventory
            /pause 600, /doability 1
            /pause 420, /autoinventory
            /doability 1

I also have NB 3 - you can forage more with items sitting on your cursor - after the third forage has happened, I clear my cursor and hit the hot key again. Gives me 4 - 5 mins between forages while I am working on other things.
