Rather than maxing out one skill, you might want to consider a goal of getting all of them to 150+ and go for the Blessed Coldain Prayer Shawl, http://lucy.allakhazam.com/item.html?id=1200 I've found it's more useful to have all tradeskills at a medium level than one maxed and the others at zero.

I see your point about opportunity costs and bank space. As counter-points:
Total combines of SS to go from 222 -> 267 will be about 650 for my warrior, judging by past results and advanced calculator guesstimates. That's 650 of each Hollowshade Moor substance, and 1300 swirling shadows. So far, the farm rate has been running between 35-40/hour for me (granted, slower for a lower level). That would indicate 65-75 hours of total farming, less if you buy the shadows (which I have started doing). Let's say 70 hours. I'd have to farm stuff at a 15Kpp/hour rate to be out even 1Mpp, let alone more. 15Kpp is way more than I generate in an hour, normally. So I'd estimate my opportunity cost at a lot less, perhaps a few hundred Kpp. Once I make GM armor and symbols for just myself, even if I buy the MDSs and such, I'm then only down a little bit, and probably ahead if I farm the drops myself.
As far as bank space, it's been a complete non-issue. I keep everything in raw form until I'm ready to make final combines. Substances and shadows all stack, as well as the rings. So I make the rings in bulk, then buy enough molds to fill half my empty slots. I make orbs to fill the other half, and do final combines. Then dump the final product, and buy molds to fill half my empty slots, etc, ad infinitum. I generally farm substances til I get about 60-90 of each. I can get through making the rings and doing the orbs and final combines easily in the span of one strength buff.
Opportunity cost is definitely a factor to consider when farming TS items, but one of the advantages of not normally generating a lot of plat is that you're not giving up very much in opportunity costs

Also as a forager: if you can leave your game running while you are at work or asleep, you can bazaar sell some forages very well, depending on your server economy.

He's suggesting you leave a BAZAAR merchent on, to sell the things you have foraged. He's not suggesting AFK foraging.

It really depends on your server which tradeskill is the most profitable. The most important thing is you have fun creating your items, whichever tradeskill(s) you decide to pick =)
I personally started doing a little bit of all tradeskills when I started, picked baking & brewing as main skills at that time as well since they were cheap to do and they we're great for roleplaying events.
(Jewelcraft is the only one I stayed away from since you need a chanter to enchant your metals or your jewelry won't have stats which makes it useless)
Although some skills like tailoring and smithing are more time and plat consuming as some have stated, I found them well worth doing at a low level. Even at a lower skill you could create some usefull items with them like handmade backpacks, quivers, pie tins, smokers, frying pans, pots, skinning knives, leather padding, dairy spoons, etc.
I would advise against trying to take them up to a high skill as well though, wether its 40K or millions of plat... it's a huge investment for a new player either way.Dutchy Blackrose < Midnite Council of the Black Rose >

I envision a day in Norath where Fishing will be very important. From the potterer, researcher, jewelcrafter, poison crafter, alchemist, tailorer, baker, brewer, fletcher, tinkerer and smither alike regardless of race. Iksar to Human. All tradeskills will be in dire need of it.

I'd have to agree. Use the items you have and work them all up till you decide which is most enjoyable. As a wood elf druid you've got some great options to you. I'd second foraging/fishing in Natimbi, you can use the meat in your baking and forage parts for brewing while you're there!
