They only drop from the "moaning" trees, you'll notice that "Dessicated" and "withered" and "dry" items drop off the "grieving" trees, while the regular items drop from the moaning ones.

Grieving are like 4-5 times more likely to spawn than the moaning, and you can go a couple hours without even seeing a moaning. The actual drop rate from the moaning for treant hearts isn't bad, its just that they are an uncommon spawn.

Just head to Elddar and slaughter them all there. Better exp plus fletching drops, and all of the treants have a chance to drop them.

How hard are those elddar treants and are they sociable or do I need to single pull to safe area?

Well, just about everything I have seen in Elddar are social. Nothing but the giants seem to be KOS. Single pulling the treants isn't that hard, and they are a lot easier to kill then the unicorns, but over half of them have that annoying AE Root dot. It can be a pretty wicked dot for lower hp folks. To make things go faster, I usually box my shammy for cures / dots / slows and I can kill at a pretty decent rate. When you are pulling to a safe loc, just make sure you are far enough away and can move faster then them. Getting stuck out in the open with that root can make you dead fast.

Many, if not most, people are not capable of soloing in Eldarr or do not have a pocket Shaman. Tak is by far the better alternative for most people. Btw, the 4 Tak treants drop fletching stuff too.

I am not really up to date on the kite/root-rot abilites of "solo" classes... so I'm not sure what you may be able to do... I did a 2 box in Elddar with a warrior/cleric and only had problems when I started to get chatty on line or really stopped paying enough attention. They have ALOT of hps, they also hit hard and fast, and most mobs there have a DD that hits for 500-1k..

As far as KOS goes, only the orcs and the giants are... the rest of the zone is indifferent (there are also no faction hits other than the giants and the orcs). The big thing tho is that ALL of the zone is social... aside from the giants and the orcs (which are social with each other)... you can train a giant across the entire zone and you'll get zero adds... you can train a tree, snake, unicorn, bear (etc) across the zone and you'll end up with 50 adds.

Bottom line.. if it wants to kill you you can bring it back alone safely (if you can split it from its friends), if it doesn't want to kill you, plan your pull well... if you train it across anything else that is indifferent you'll get an add..

Also... I got all but one of my Treant hearts from Tak.. it's possible they changed the drop rate, but I got ~5 in ~5 hours of farming (I was after the branches, but I knew the hearts were good for something so I saved them)... If you can get a group (or really just a slower, healer and tank -with the other two even a rogue or monk will do just fine) you can tear up Elddar, and the exp is well worth the time
