  • Do you favor mass farming or farming in portions for skill ups?

Just wondering amongst all tradeskillers here what is or was their preferred method of farming: mass farming (for example for 1k combines) or farming in portions such as a bag or a few stacks? Really just curious about it and I'm looking forward to reading your experiences.

I find myself farming in portions mostly, I do not have the patience or attention span to farm in huge quantities. Although I certainly have farmed for mass attempts or combines - I just don't have the patience to do it anymore.

Portions. Part of it is a patience thing and part of it is motivation. If I can look forward to getting some skillups at the end of a long day of farming, it's easier to keep on going.

It really depends on what I was farming at the time. Some things could be gathered much quicker than others.

But basically, I would farm until something else would come up, or a couple of friends would log on to go farm something else

I don't miss the farming at all, but I do miss the skilling.

Thus, I rolled a gnome and took up tinkering. Now I'm working on his research.

i usually farm a full bag of the rare item before i go do combines. i figure this saves me time in switching equipment, bag slots, the time it takes to go and buy the sets of other components for the final combine.

the gear/buffs i use for farming is basically the same i use for normal everyday raiding/exp'n so its easier to just keep going with that instead of switching back and forth daily.

sometimes the rare items are so hellishly rare that u can't get a bag full..so i'd try to get a few stacks. plus the more combines u can do at any one sitting the greater chance u can overcome all the RNG monster.

Depends on the farming, some mobs are just satisfying to kill - like the tizmaks in Great Divide, I farm those for velium weapons. I could kill those guys all day, its fun. DS + aggroing everything in the caves = lots of dead yakmen.

              1000 combines...?

lol...no bank/inventory space for that much farming, even on the mules, hehehe

like others above, I farm a few stacks, maybe a bag or two's worth, of stuff at a time, usually the rare or 'key' component.

I enjoy farming, especially greenies I can PBAE, one click and they all fall down, it's a beautiful sight, hehehehe

For tailoring I bought and farmed for 4 months, then went from 158 to 250 in one session.

i farm until i get mad at the drachnids not dropping any silk
havent farmed recently, but i normally go for 50 combines per if im farming
120 combines per or so doing MHB but i havent done those in awhile..
im not rich or i would go 100 combines per farming.. but that would knock off about 3k in cultural stuffs..

I farm till I curse my lack of bankspace, then process the stuff I have.

                      Likewise
Bank space is definately the deciding factor for me!

I prefer to farm components for a few skillup attempts at a time (usually what I can gather in one session) and then do the clicking before farming some more.

I will typically farm up enough stuff for about 100 combines, unless I'm near the trivial level for that recipe and will no longer need the ingredient, then I farm for 20-40 combines.

I'm in the process of gathering stuff for a smithing run (ShadowScream.) Just finished farming up 200 Swirling Shadows. Now, it's on to the substance. Had a good thing going with the owlbears last night (they had taken over the whole zone) until some "extremely helpful person" went to the fort and killed the named, and reset the zone back to the grimlings in the south. I was about farmed out by then anyway, so I "thanked him" and logged.

I farm until either I run out of bank space, or I get tired of farming and start to get impatient to see the skill-up messages. I like to have a fair quantity, its a bit of a hassle to get set up for tradeskilling but only have enough components for a few combines.

I typically like to do things in batches. Depending on what I am making depends on the size of the batch typically I would say 100. That is changing to be use whatever I can get my hands on as soon as I can get my hands on it for my remaining tradeskills, namely smithing and tailoring.
