Not sure how you mean "how does foraging work" but I will tell you what I know about foraging hoping it answers your question.

Foraging is a skill that certain classes and races get, it allows you to 'pick up' all sorts of interesting goodies from the floor. You should have an abilitities button for foraging and clicking it will pick up something, what, that is always a suprise.

Each zone has standard items you can forage, fruit, berries, fishing grubs, vegetables (am I missing any?) and then most zones also have specific things that can only be foraged in that zone for example your sylvan berries.

My foraging has been maxed as soon as it was possible, so take the following with a pinch of salt as I am not 100% sure this is true, but some say it is.
The higher your foragig skill the less time there is between forages and the more your change of getting the unusual forage such as your berries. Some also say that the higher your skill is the more you will forage the rare item.

In Katta Kastellum there is a quest you can do to obtain a machette that has 10% to forage, if you check the quest section here I think it lists there what to do to obtain it.

Not knowing what level you are (and not remembering if the skill increase of foraging is linked to your level) you might want to do the quest to give yourself an extra 10%. A good idea is also to link your forage button to one of your movement keys (keyoard) so you forage by just moving about.

Ok thats some titbits about foraging, hope it covers your question.

    Good luck with the berries

Sylvan berries are also dropped by the orcs in Lfay.

Was in Lfay the other day foraging and killing orcs for the berries. It was about a 50/50 split fot the stack I got.

Arte, you lefy out roots and rabbit meat on the list of common forages.

And nothing decreases the forage timer, it's the same at level 200 as it is at level 1, you just find stuff more often the higher your skill.

now thats a good idea, but you only said one- i have mine linked to BOTH left and right movement keys..
also would like to add in a questino of my own- my friend someone had it wrote somewhere how to link foraging to all 4 movement keys + autoinv it.. how would you do this?

to make you autoinventory your autoforages.

1> Go to Socials.. title one Forage then
line 1: /doability # (where # is the slot you have forage in)
                Line 2: /pause 5
                line 3: /autoinventory

2> Take that new social and add it to your hotkeys..

3> Macro all arrows to that hotkey

** I macro'd it to the same hotkey in each bank just so I don't accidentally do something I don't want to.....like attack or whatever.

Now that we have 4 windows of hotkeys, I put my forage macro on window 4, then keep that window closed. It was so nice gaining that 10th hotkey back on all of my toons. Of course, if you actually use all 4 windows of hotkeys, this is less useful. But I find most people use 2-3 at most.

Some zones (like Omens of War) have a different core set of forageables, by the way. I don;t think you can forage berries, fruits, rabbit, etc., in NC or WoS, for example, and instead you get straggle grass, chameleon heads, etc.

In some places, like velious, you get slush water instead of a pod of water.

In PoR spots, you get dessicated versions and very unusual versions of water.

As for why you only link to one movement key, the forage button is timed out for 90 seconds after you use it. The odds really needing 2 keys to ensure you forage when it pops up are low.

Open a new macro window and type the following:

                        Line 1: /sit off
Line 2: /pause 5, /doability # (where # is the slot number you have forage in your abilities window)
                        Line 3: /pause 5, /autoinventory
                        Line 4: /autoinventory

(I have my druid's set like this since she has the double forage aa. No need for all 4 lines if you don't have that aa yet.)
Then before the advent of the new hot key windows I just had /sit off set up on all my alts in the same hot button. Now however it's not a necessity. But I'm so used to it I turn left to stand up more often than hitting the correct button. Hope this helps.

Actually the database says that sylvan berries may be extremely rare off of the critters listed other than orcs, and that orcs may be the best dropped source of them.

Also, btw, someone mentioned orc drops of sylvan berries this at Fan Faire a few weeks ago. I know that Ngreth was there but don't remember what the exact issue or result was; I don't have my FF notes at hand atm. (How's that for useful information? I just didn't want to forget to say anything, and maybe someone else remembers from FF . . ..)
