  • Does machete help foraging > 200? Possible answer...

I've been doing a lot of foraging lately for justice fruit (those pies are just scrumpdelicous) so I've been keeping track of the forages with and without the foraging machete. My foraging skill is 200, of course. Here's the results so far:
    [code:1]Plane of Justice W/O Machete W/ Machete

    Total forages 203 219
    Bread Crumbs 51 71
    Cockroaches 58 51
    Justice Fruit 41 40[/code:1]
As you can see, the machete appeared to make no difference for the justice fruit, little difference on the cockroaches, and a lot of difference on the bread crumbs. The difference between the 51 and 71 bread crumbs was made up mostly of water, which I find odd.

I am a foraging addict and I will continue to keep track of what I forage in the different zones. It's too bad the foraging message doesn't tell you exactly what you foraged. That would make it much easier.

Thanks, that's great information for figuring out the effect of the machette.

I did the quest this weekend to get the machette and test it out. I discovered something strange with it. When I equipped it, the refresh time on my forage button went from 100 secs to 120 secs. When I put it back in the bag, it went back to 100 secs again. Is it just me, or have anyone else had the same problem ?

Just one update. I tried the machette again today and this time I got 100 secs with it in all the zones I tried. I even tried Katta where I discovered it the first time.

        Here's some more data:

        [code:1] Total forages 533 419
        Bread Crumbs 158 (29%) 130 (31%)
        Cockroaches 151 (28%) 94 (22%)
        Justice Fruit 100 (19%) 81 (19%)[/code:1]
As you can see the machete appears to make little, if any, difference.

I did notice something different with the machete, though. I got a bunch of messages saying "you must wait longer before you can forage". I did not get these unless I was holding the machete. I'll look into it some more.

I've been getting those msgs a lot lately, with no machete in hand. Quite annoying.

The thing about statistics is that no sample of data is large enough, so no conclusions can be made from such a small amount of forages.

Think of it in a mathematical manner and think how forages are programmed. It's only numbers and random dice rolling so to speak. You forage what you forage on the day and no miracle device will bring in the better goods.

            It's all in the RNG.

I disagree with that statement. I think all the tests above (plus my own in EK, which I will add when completed) shows that the machette is statistically in significant for skill beyond 200. Statistics is exactly what they are. We use statistics to describe a situation because we can't obtain the truth (as in foraging codes from Sony). When multiple relatively large samples shows similar indifferences, I think we can safely "conclude" that the machette is useless beyond skill 200.

              [edit]

Just finished my run in EK (skill at 200):

So it would seems that the machette is statistically insignificant after 200.

You should just drop whatever you forage on the ground and pick it up, that way in your log it will say "You just dropped your XXXX".
