  • Stacking pet peeve

I was wondering if there was a way to change the way the tradeskill UI handles stacks?

Example, I buy 3 stacks of items for a combine. Salvage saves 1 on a fail. I buy 3 more stacks.

Now i have 4 inventory slots taken up by 61 items, with (in order) a stack of 20, 20, 20 then the one.

I do 1 comibe and i still have 4 slots used up, in stacks of 19, 20, 20 and the 1.

I know I can move them around, but that's even more clicking lol.

    Just an idea ...

In other words you want the recipe book to use ingredients from the smallest stack rather than in slot order?

That would be great. I know a few extra clicks out of 1,000s isn't alot though lol.

I get uneven stacking with MTP if I don't do even multiples of 60 (including all subcombines). Since it's not possible to force every subcombines to match neatly in numbers (particularly cakes, 200 per clump of dough) I tended to get uneven and fragmented stacks in my inventory after so many combines.

          *click* *click* /salvage fires

*trundle off to store to buy more combines*

          *buy stack*
          *buy stack*
          *... pause...*
          /buy 19

          Problem solved.

Coding a solution to something that's not really a problem invites errors. (The general rule of thumb is ONE software source line of code per hour of work, and one Customer Reported Unexpected Defect per new line of code.)

It's not a user-interface issue, it's a user issue. Fixing users is hard. I'm not saying it's not annoying when stacks become uneven. (I've done Qeynos Afternoon Teas and Misty Picnics enough to have two full deluxe toolboxes of leftovers.) I'm saying that it's expected because of the nature of the beast.

A guildie wanted a ceramic lining. So I decided to make a batch so they could toss the extras into the guild bank for everyone else who ever needs one.

          20 sketches
          20 clay
          20 water
          20 firing sheets.....

          click click click ....

You guessed it, I failed a combine and had a firing sheet extra. *grumble* Thus is life. Had I been trying to skill up I'd need to buy 19 the next go round. (With my luck, EVERY go round.)
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

I would just like to be able to enter a number and get everything I want all at once. For instance, I need to pick up 20 steel casings for my tinkerer. I open the merchant and click buy, enter 20, and bam, if I have those 20 open slots and the money to pay for it, I got 20 items in one go, rather than clicking 20 times. Same with stackables - when I clear out a merchant of unrefined ore, I need 800 carbons to process them. Click, gimme 800, done.

actually Itek, it might not be that big of a code change. right now it starts at the "top" of you inventory, and works it's way down. basicily what the OP is looking for is for tradeskills to start at the bottom, and work thier way up.

now it seems like a simple thing from a conseptual stand point. it being an easy codeing thing is potnetially a whole different ball game.

Throwing weapons being thrown already work that way within a given bag. That being the case I should think the code change would be fairly small.

depending on who knows what, sometimes reagent-using spells will use reagents from the bottom up rather than top down. not every time, it seems, and although i haven't put a lot of effort into discerning a pattern, i haven't noticed one.

in eq2 there was a nice feature to click at the vendor to fill partial stacks. very handy!
