  • Sorry for asking simple questions, but I could not find the information via search

    Good afternoon all,

After quite a while of stepping away from tradeskills, I am coming back at it with a vengance. Raiding is the only part of the game I was enjoying, not I am working tradeskills hard in the off time...I think I might be opposite of many, who choose not to raid and tradeskill most of the time, but I think all tradeskillers have the same passion to make cool stuff =)

Anyway, my main questions is to confirm what was true in the past, that skill ups in any skill are based on wisdom or int, whichever is higher...Is this still accurate?

Beyond that, has there been a definitive answer to whether ot not a secondary stat that has a beneficial effect on failure/success rate? Back a few years ago, that was a myth to the best of my knowledge, wanted to see if anything else was known on this.

Going to do soulscream for a while, then bang out sickles as much as I hate to spend tons of platinum on basically useless items, with the exception of tribute.

Sorry if this information is complace that I missed, I appreciate any input that any of you can give.

    Many thanks,

    Screamrbringer

That is mostly true. The skillup rate is based on the highest of Int, Wis, and a possible secondary skill. The secondary skill is Dex for Fletching and Poisonmaking, and Str for Smithing. No other tradeskills have secondary skills.

Stats have no effect on failure/success. Only your tradeskill level, modifiers (like Geerlok or trophy), and Mastery AAs affect your success rate.

      Thank you

      Thanks for the information!!

As much as I am tired of grinding AA, I think it is going to be a little easier knowing I am doing them for Blacksmithing mastery and Salvage.

again, thanks, I appreciate the info.

Before you go that route, understand that the Mastery AAs do NOT override success caps. For instance, most recipes have success caps at 5% and 95%.

Having Mastery 3 should decrease your fail rate by 50%...but if you are already at the 95% success rate, it won't help at all.

The only 2 things (that I'm aware of, anyway) that will raise the cap are:
        1) no-fail items
        2) having your RAW skill 40 points more than the trivial of the recipe

Neither of those is particularly helpful if you are trying to skillup.

Some recipes (most notably, DoN GM armor and OoW Augments) have a lower success cap. For instance, the GM Breastplate/Greaves are thought to have a cap around 60-63%. Again, Mastery won't get you beyond that.
