  • skill points and combines

    Hi folks

    I am a newbie to doing tradeskills and i have a question(didn't see this question asked before, but if i missed it, i am sorry).

    when doing tradeskills(going to use tailoring for example, but this is for all tradeskills in general)

    would it be better to do tailoring this way:
    116 - 128 Wu's Fighting Collar
    129 - 135 Wu's Fighting Wristbands
    136 - 144 Wu's Fighting Mantle
    145 - 151 Wu's Fighting Sleeves
    152 - 158 Wu's Fighting Shirt

    or doing it this way:
    116 - 128 Wu's Fighting Collar
    152 - 158 Wu's Fighting Shirt

    I know its a big jump in trivial points between the 2 items but would it be harder to get the trivial point ups this way? Or will I get the trivial points faster going step by step?

    Thanks

    Trayc

    In terms of skillups, you are twice as likely to get a skillup on a success as you are on a failure. This is the only place the trivial comes into play for skillups. Ideally, you can do combines which trivial in between your base skill and your modified skill (I.E. with base skill of 150 and a 5% geerlok, doing combines between 151 and 157 triv is ideal). However, in practice, this only applies on a failures, so as long as you are near enough to the triv to succeed the majority of your combines, a 30 skill jump isn't bad.

    However, you'll find that the shirts take more spider silks, and this should be your determining factor in which items to do. Maximize the utility of your farmed items 1st, and that usually dictates you do the attempts in small steps in triv.

      IMO, this is the key factor. I don't have the Wu's recipe in my mind (and I'm too lazy to go look it up), but you should stay on the recipe with the fewest amount of spider silks for as long as possible (this is a general convention to follow, especially for tailoring. Stay on the recipe that uses the fewest non-store bought components until it's trivial, then move to the next.)

        This is the order I recommend:

        From 131 to 135: 1 Silk Swatch + 4 Heady Kiola + 1 Viscous Mana + Mask (or Wristband) Pattern -> Wu’s Fighting Mask (or Wristband)
        From 135 to 142: 1 Silk Swatch + 4 Heady Kiola + 1 Viscous Mana + Cap (or Mantle) Pattern -> Wu’s Fighting Cap (or Mantle)
        From 142 to 151: 2 Silk Swatches + 4 Heady Kiola + 1 Viscous Mana + Sleeve Pattern -> Wu’s Fighting Sleeves
        From 151 to 154: 3 Silk Swatches + 4 Heady Kiola + 1 Viscous Mana + Pant Pattern -> Wu’s Fighting Pantaloons
        (Note, this is too many items to combine in anything but a Deluxe Sewing Kit or a loom)
        From 154 to 158: 3 Silk Swatches + 4 Heady Kiola + 1 Viscous Mana + Tunic Pattern -> Wu’s Fighting Shirt
        (Note, this also requires a Deluxe Sewing Kit or a loom)

        For the stuff prior to 131, I STRONGLY advise using Crystalline Silk instead -- Heady Kiola is a pain and Crystalline Silk is usuable "bazaar-farmable" in abundance (admittedly, I did this before the tradeskill UI -- it might be less annoying than when we had to individuall place the stuff in the containers ever combine, but the principal of avoiding this stuff remains strongly ingrained in my psyche):

        From 95 to 102: 1 Crystalline Swatch + Silver Thread + Gorget Pattern -> Crystalline Silk Collar
        From 102 to 108: 1 Crystalline Swatch + Silver Thread + Mask (or Wristband) Pattern -> Crystalline Silk Mask (or Wristband)
        From 108 to 115: 1 Crystalline Swatch + Silver Thread + Cap Pattern -> Crystalline Silk Cap
        From 115 to 118: 1 Crystalline Swatch + Silver Thread + Shoulderpad Pattern -> Crystalline Silk Mantle
        From 118 to 124: 2 Crystalline Swatches + Silver Thread + Glove (or Sleeve) Pattern -> Crystalline Silk Gloves (or Sleeves)
        From 124 to 131: 3 Crystalline Swatches + Silver Thread + Tunic Pattern -> Crystalline Silk Shirt
