Barb GM symbol quest bugged, any info?

Is it intended in the quest "Beyond the Goblin Gates" (to allow Barbarians to make GM symbols) that the only Rough patch of goblin skins that count toward the total are ones looted in Stillmoon instances itself?

The quests for other races accept drops from other themed instances (such as The Nest), but not the Barbarian one. I have seen this mentioned before, but I can't recall seeing an official response from SoE on this. If this is a bug, fixing it would make many Barbarian tradeskillers very happy, as the current form of the quest is a massive pain to complete.

Actually it seems quite random. Some GM quests require you to kill or loot in a specific zone, while others do not... I know killing the low level spiders in Lavastorm counts toward the High Elf quest for example, while dwarf GM requires the killing and looting of drakes in a Creator type instances... But since coarse spider silk or success caps are not a priority after 13 months, I doubt this is very high on their list...

The developers actually addressed this when DoN came out. Basically, to have kills count in an instance, the zone must be set to "all." The devs said this was a limitation of the task system, and not something that would be easy to fix. This means you can get kill credit anywhere. However, usually, the kill credit mobs will only appear in instances. Lavaspinners in Lavastorm are one of the very few exceptions.

The item drops only come from mobs in instances, though. So one way or the other, you're going to have to kill in an instance.

Having to kill in an instance isn't the problem. I would just like to see the Rough Patch of goblin skins that I looted in The Nest, Tirranum, or any other non-stillmoon instance count towards the loot #

Claws looted in the nest do not count for the wood elf gm quest while ones looted in thundercrest do.

I could be wrong (I haven't really researched this), but I think all the race tasks take kills from any zone, but loot from a specific zone. I know Vah Shir is Stillmoon only.

i bugged and petitioned this about 3 months after DoN came out. the petition was answered by saying log and then try to loot again to see if it works. it didnt. not all the looted ones counted. so its either a known bug and they dont care to fix it or its working as intended.

The variety of replies from players in this thread is exactly why I was hoping to get an official response from SoE. There seems to be some assumptions about the way it should work vs. the way it does work, and I would like to see how it was actually intended to be.

This is probably an old discussion path, but i am in the same boat. My Wood Elf's would love to make GM augs, but will never be able to because of the quest to enable it. We have killed enough Drakes in DoN missions for both my wood elfs to get solo credit for each kill - let alone loot, but they dont count. Would love all killed Drakes in DoN missions to count towards killing Drakes in DoN missions (for GM aug quest). How can i tell what missions will work towards completing my GM aug quest (there might be something in game that tells me, its been so long that i even looked at this)
