  • Trophy skillup "quirk"

I ran into a rather strange "quirk" to the tradeskill trophies tonight. I finally bit the bullet and decided to take advantage of my race and do what I could with fletching over the past few days.

When I started, my skill was exactly 250 and I had the Expert Fletching Trophy. The trophy evolved consistently ahead of any skill points, and when it rolled over to Master Fletching Trophy, my unmodified skill was still only 288. Several hundred combines later, my skill is still only 294 - and the trophy has not evolved any further. Evidently it's keyed into the coding that if your skill does not match the level for the trophy (i.e. 300 for the Master's trophies) it WILL NOT EVOLVE, presumably until you skill up to that point.

The RNG has always hated me. Hehe I somewhat wistfully was hoping it would actually continue to evolve while I go through what may be thousands of combines just to get those last few points. Sigh...

That's intentional -- the trophy can't get ahead of you. If you're getting bad luck on skillups, the trophy will "pause" while you catch up. Conversely, if you get good luck and skill up to the next tier before your trophy evolves, it will start gaining exp at an accelerated rate to catch up with you.

I got my Expert Trophy at 270, and it was at about 78% when I finally hit 300 yesterday morning. It took only a few combines for the trophy to hit 100% and evolve to Master -- gaining more than 1% per combine (Mithril Champion Arrows).

Mer generally speaking though, since the XP needed to level the Trophies seems to grow linearly but the number of combines needed to skill up grows as a rising curve, I expect that at the lower end of the scale the skill will be well ahead of the trophy XP, but will switch over having the Trophy levelling up before your skill catches up. This is probably a good thing, especially when you're going from 200 skill and upwards, where an Expert trophy will probably help increase your success rate and hence your skill-up rate too.

Well, I got the beginner tinkering trophy with my level 16 gnome. He hadn't tinkered at all prior to getting the task. Was still at 50 when he got the trophy.

The trophy evolved VERY fast (like 3-4% per success) and I had to catch up to it at 100. By the time I was 120, it had evolved again...so I had to catch up again to 150.

So, I would assume that, if you get your trophy early, it will outrace you, generally.
