  • math help for the groggy

I need someone to check my math - well really my logic. I'm trying to figure out how many possible OoW augs there are, grand total. (Just items, not recipes.) I need to include those that aren't fully processed. There are:

    21 stones
    3 cuts (polished, brilliant, radiant)
    15 marks
3 inlays (no inlay, white gold, black gold)

So that's (21*3*15*3) but then I need to add (21) for the raw stones and (21*3) for the cut-only stones. That would be 2919.

That should cover all of the possible OoW augs, right? I'm not missing something here? (I'm working with these buggers in the database and my attempts to make sure I've got them all in my list aren't getting me the right totals.)

For all the possible combinations I'd treat each type as you did the inlays...

one choice for the mark is none, one choice for the polishing is none... so that adds....

I get a grand total of 4032... that's 21*4*16*3 and includes the choice of not doing anything to the stone....

    That help?

That doesn't work, because you can't mark or inlay a raw stone, and can't inlay a cut stone. That's why I added them back separately.

My problem is that I keep getting lists with 2912 instead of 2919.

        Okay, so let's work backwards....

        For the inlays...

        21*3*15*2 = 1890 possibilities

        For the Marks...

        21*3*15 =945

        For the polishing...

        21*3 = 63

        And the stones themselves....

        21

        So, 1890+945+63+21 = 2919.

I looked at the augment generator and do not see anything (besides my first mistake with the inlay that would preclude only 7 stones. I hope that layed out this way makes sense to you and helps.

        Good luck.

Thank you, at least I know 2919 really is the goal.

I think the missing 7 are tourmalines and titanites, although identifying them exactly is going to be quite a treat.

          Thanks

Is it at all feasible to run search lists for the individual stones? This would be 21 separate lists for each of the 21 different stones. Each stone should have 139 results (139 * 21 = 2919) and that should help you identify which stones are missing combinations (and how many combination are missing) in the database. The total of 139 results can also be determined by (3 cuts * 15 marks * 3 inlays + 4 for raw and cut only). Could each list then be sorted and compared to a 'master list' (known to include all 139 possibilities for a stone) to assist with narrowing down the missing recipes? Hope this helps.

I've found from past experiences that the tighter your plan, the more likely you are to run into something unpredictable.

That's exactly what I did. The titanites and tourmalines we were missing are (some of) the regular and pure quickenings (but not minor). And just for a little variety, there are extra recipes for tourmalines of pure aggression.

So the problem is found and now I just have to get my eyes to uncross so I can make the fixes!
