  • What recipe(s) have you discovered?

    Hail fellow tradeskillers!

I was curious to find out how many of you actually were able to discover and in game recipe. I, for one, I have NEVER done that. The only way I knew how to make anything is from this site or Alla.

With all the new research recipes being discovered and new recipes that are going to come out with PoR, I am hoping I can discover a recipe on my own just once

Since the new research is fairly systematic, I was able to guess a lot of the necro spells easily. As for actually just picking up a few items in game and just hitting combine until I get a fail or success...I lack a certain pioneering spirit.

The .4 is when you were about to hit combine, but then realized at the last second that somehow you managed to accidently drop your hat in forge.

Wow, that IS impressive. I've had my hat drop over my eyes before, but not the forge...

Most recipes are discovered through in game sources. Books sold on vendors, text certain NPCs give when hailed, quests, etc.

The ones that are easy to interpret and explicitly spelled out in the source documents are nice to have a first with, but you feel like anyone with the skill to do the recipe could have done it. Some recipes aren't as clear and people have to do some figuring to get the recipe right. Discovering one of those brings a bit bigger sense of accomplishment.

For example, I believe I was the first in game to make any Shadowscream Steel armor, and also believe I was the first to make the Underfoot Breastplate. The Underfoot Breastplate came out with the other blue diamond cultural recipes. There was an NPC who gave the recipes, and they were pretty straightforward. By a day or so after the patch, many pieces had been made and there was no mystery about the ones that hadn't been made yet.

The Shadowscream Steel recipe was a bit more vague. Several folks tried to get it right over a period of a week or so. I was lucky to get the recipe right and was able to post it here. I feel a lot more pride over that than the blue diamond stuff, even though the armor isn't nearly as nice.

Experimenting for new recipes has gotten a lot less painless since the bad old days when all the items in a tradeskill container would poof if you hit COMBINE and the components weren't valid for a recipe. It was really expensive to experiment back then, and fewer people did it.

I remember being the first to actually smith and post the stats for a velium 2 handed sword. I don't remember though, if the recipe was already listed here on the site and unattempted, or if I was the first to consider that particular extrapolation from forged weapon recipes.

It was years ago now, but I was the first person (as far as I know) to discover the black dye you could make for the original fine steel plate from the blue slumber fungus. We already had black dye from charcoal, and I've never been real clear on why there were two ways to make the black extract, but anyway, it wasn't on EQ Traders until I submitted it
