Does anyone know the *IN GAME* recipe source for this?

    http://www.eqtraders.com/items/show_...r=035000000000

as in... how did players fisrt learn how to make it before they reported it to EQTC?

    theory:

    1. accidentally created when putting a wrong component to a known recipe
    2. leak from SOE employee

    etc.

Depending on the age of the item, it may even date back to the days when people had to figure out recipes by actually sticking stuff into a container and clicking until they got a success...

You know something is up when a Dev doesn't even know how an item was created =P.

I'm about 92.7% sure that there are some alchemy recipes that never had in-game sources. I believe they were just spread by folks who'd beta tested them. These may be them.

That is what I am starting to suspect.

As for "Not Knowing" the system has no way to connect the "book/Dialog" that taught how to make it with the recipe. And back before OoW or so, the devs were not very good about comments... so... finding certain things from before I was in the company (which has only been about 4 months...) can sometime be rather dificult, especially if the dev who made it is no longer with EQ (which in this case is true)

The way we tell you in game how to make soemthing actually has no connection to the mechanism that defines how a recipe comes together, the way we tell you how to do soemthing is just a "courtesy" from the dev. Theoretically I could jsut make 1000 recipies and never say how they are made, and they will still work... just no player would know how to make it without pure trial and error.

Its not like this would be new... just hasn't happened in a while.

Even better... back in those days, a DNC ate every single one of your components.

We stuck at it anyway for some insane reason.

And you had to walk up-hill, both ways, to kill rats to make rat ear pie...

                  <grin>

Thank you whomever took out the eat everything when it DNCs! Thank you to that special person dear to our hearts that makes things stack, and all the other nice goodies too....

Overviews of these recipes were given to Beta testers. The recipe books were on a "to do list" after we tested the different recipes, and verified they worked. All ingredients were available on venders, so it made testing easy.

I do not believe the books were ever added to the game. I would have to check my pending list of screenshots to verify, but at this time, I don't have a book referencing any of them on my website.]

Edit: Actually, now that I think about it, I do remember a book in PoK and AS that cover the basics of the recipes. Experimentation resulted in the rest.

It'd be interesting to know how many recipes have never been discovered. Do Devs keep a log of sorts to know which recipes are still lying dormant?

                        not really.

if the recipe resulted in an item that can only be created via recipe, then this could be tracked. If it is an alternate recipe to make an existing item... there is nothing.

Unfortunately... figuring out what items have never been made is a rather large time consuming operation... and though this might be fun information, it is not something I plan on doing as there are other things I believe the community is more interested in me fixing.
