  • Stratics HoC Chat

    I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this, but Stratics is hosting a House of Commons chat with the EQ developers tonight. It will be at 5pm PST / 8pm EDT in the #StraticsHoC channel on Stratics IRC.

    I've got a few questions for the developers, but feel free to pop in and check it out.

    I won't be able to participate tonight (going to see U2, oh darn ), but if you could ask about the future of researching LDoN spells, I would really appreciate it.

                From the HoC chat tonight, I was able to ask a few tradeskill related questions.

                [20:07] <Brannoc> *Nolrog* Are there plans on adding recipes for Taelosian Wheat/mountain wheat? They were added to the game with GoD, but never used in a recipe. There is an ongoing thread on the artisan’s way titled Gates of Discord Tradeskill still not complete if you need recipe ideas. ;-)

                [20:08] <Dev-Maddoc> Yes, we will be adding recipes that use the Taelosian wheat in future recipes.

                ================================================== ========

                [20:14] <Brannoc> *Nolrog* Are there plans on increasing the stack size on selected tradeskill items, such as blue diamonds, celestial essence, spider silks/swatches, spiderling silks/threads, etc?

                [20:14] <Dev-Maddoc> Yes, this is something that's on our list of things to review and is partially the reason we got the stackability changes made to begin with.

                [20:14] <Dev-Maddoc> Making this adjustment for ammo was a relatively easy and painless change. Items that are used as source-items in tradeskills are not as straight forward, so we'll need to look at them on an item by item (and likely on a skill by skill) basis. It's not an overly difficult thing to do, it just takes a little time. It's entirely likely that these changes will make it out in smaller chunks, likely on a skill-by-skill basis.

                ================================================== ========

                [20:24] <Brannoc> *Nolrog* Are there any plans to address the ever growing shortage of bank space? Tradeskillers are notorious pack rats, keeping anything that has the tradeskill tag for future use, which eats up bank space quickly.

                [20:27] <Dev-Maddoc> This is something that has been mentioned before and seems specific to tradeskill-components. The first thing that we plan on doing is increasing the stack size on tradeskill components, such that what you do have stored in there will take up significantly less space than it did previously. Once that's complete, we'll re-evaluate the need for bank-space on a more global level.

                ================================================== ========

                [20:30] <Brannoc> *Nolrog* Are there any plans to allow mass (bulk) combines (say 5 or 10 at a time) for certain combines (celestial essence comes to mind.)??

                [20:33] <Dev-Maddoc> There have been some discussions on this subject that have ranged from a "quick-fix" to a more in-depth change that we've been discussing. Neither of them have been decided on just yet, but it's something that we're looking into. In the short term, we may look into adding a couple new recipes for the biggest offenders, but it's not something we'll do for all refinement recipes.

                ================================================== ========

                [20:31] <Brannoc> *Nolrog* Are there any alternative ways planned to help tradeskiller find rare items on vendors, buy allowing stock to rotate, so that the most recent items sold to them are kept?

                [20:30] <Dev-Maddoc> Tanker spent some time looking into this not too long ago and discovered a few gotcha's in the Merchant code that make this more than a one-day project.
                [20:31] <Dev-Maddoc> In talking about it with his lead, it was decided that the solutions to these problems were both too time-consuming for right now, and contained side-effects

                ================================================== ========

                [20:58] <Brannoc> *Nolrog* Are there any plans to revisit the drop rates for DoN cultural (grandmaster cultural quest items, glossy drake hides, metallic drake scales)??

                [20:58] <Ngreth> Yes, we do plan on reviewing the drop rates of the Don cultural items. We have no exact timetable for it, but it is on the top of my list.

                  No offense to Maddoc, but these sound like copy/paste answers from what he's posted before. Several of the answers are identical to posts he's made in the past. Having said that, there's some new nuggets in there too. Certainly some material in there to chew over...

                    One simple way to cycle npc vendor items is to just have them despawn and respawn every 7 days or so. That might not be as easy as "eq" daily, since it spans days (dunno if there is support for depop-repop timers longer than an eq day), but it would completely get around the problem of messing with lists of individual items on a vendor, keeping track of what was oldest, etc.

                    I think most vendors' inventories are pretty much locked after 7 days, so would be a good amount of time (I know some lock faster and others more slowly).

                      Or have vendors display only tradeskill-tagged items and chuck the rest into their Haversack of Oblivion where a lot of good, useful components usually end up.

                        Lots of useful things to vendor dive are not tradeskill tagged.

                          Plenty of people look for things other than tradeskill tagged items. Quest items for example are one. Just keeping TS tagged items partially solves the problem for some (but not fully) and creates a whole new problem for others.

                            I thought of just having the tradeskill flagged stuff stay at the top of the list, so they don't get removed. Would still have the quest items in there unless it's been a really really long time since a patch or server restart, but it would more than likely get rid of the vendor fodder items fast.

                              Well..

                              The same questions were asked.

                              Just because time passed does not mean that the answer has changed. Sure the answer may have changed, but not necessarily.

                              So same question... gets the same answer... equals "sounds the same" even if it was not cut and paste.

                              One thing that can be said about Maddoc is that he can be very consistent. So when he answers the same question multiple times, the answers are going to be similar enough to seem like cut and paste.

                              And in a perfect world, we would get everything done so that there would be new questions... but well... the world is not perfect!
