  • Celestial Essence + Holloween Quests?

I only came back to the game barely a month ago but to build up some quick cash I tried selling large amounts of CE at what I felt were fair prices on my vendor on Drinal. There were those that sold much lower and higher then me, there were those who stocked much heavier then me. I was pleasently surprised that almost allways my stock got cleaned out shortly after I would put up my vendor no matter how much I stocked (1440 essences is as much as I did one day, just to see how fast it would sell, I don't think I'll repeat the 2 hours of clicking again).

After the Holloween quests ended the sales stopped going so fast. I haven't had much luck on looking up the exact quests except that the tradeskill part of it was some low lvl baking recipies for part of it and those didn't use CE. Is there a part I missed or did I happen to luck into a surge in people tradeskill grinding over the last month or the opposite?

What you encountered has all the hallmarks of a smith actively trying to get to 300 using the sickle recipie.

This recipie, henceforth referred to as 'that evil recipie a mean developer who hates tradeskillers thought up' requires no less than 9 CE per combine. A smith trying to get up to 300 using this 'evil recipie a mean developer who hates tradeskillers thought up' can easily use 3,000-10,000 of these.

You can therefore be kept in business for weeks by just one tradeskiller, then find that as soon as the rush started, its stops, becuase unknown to you, they hit 300, and don't need em any more.

But worry not, I promise you the next one will be along soon. And if you get really lucky, 3 or 4 will be active at once, and they will happily pay 10pp each, and more, and still buy them faster than you can make them.

And I thank heavens there were people just like you willing to do this when I was smithing.

Oh, and if you ever see someone selling them cheaper than you, and feel tempted to lower your price becuase you think you are in competition with them, don't. Becuase when your smith does come along, he needs so many, he will buy not only the cheaper ones, but yours as well.

Not to mention that if the smith is ready to make a run, he will not be willing to wait. If the cheaper seller is offline for an hour, the smith will buy from you rather than wait even if he knows the other will be back.

Personally, I usually had a maximum price that I would not exceed just because I refused to support what I considered gouging. Up to that price, I would buy whatever was avaialable even if I knew that lower prices were common.

The difference between 4, 5, even 10pp each is nothing to a smith pushing to 300 with that path. If they have the plat to burn to push to 300 with that evil combine, 100pp extra a stack isn't going to make much of a difference. Price if for what you want, it won't make much difference on the amount you sell.

I know I paid 4pp each, 5pp each, 6, 7, 8, 8.9, 9.4, 10pp each - you get the idea. It really doesn't matter if you have the supply and the smith doesn't have to click them

I wish there had been more people on my server making this while I pushed to 300. I ended up getting friends to help me make CE's. I think I only found them for sale one time where a vendor had more than 20 available.

I was doing subs for a friend over the past weeks for sickles. But I guess since I sold so many many ce's at 5p a long time ago, I refuse to pay more than that. I'll make my own if they're more than 5p. Which is, admittedly, kinda nutty when an extra 100p per stack is chump change compared to the cost for 500 sickle combines. So if your ce's were at 5p it may have been me buying several hundred at a time on Drinal.

I have been a much happier tradeskiller since I decided to just buy my CEs in the bazaar.

LOL, thankyou all for your input. Yes it might have been you since I kept my prices at 5p on Splatnix originally. After starting this thread I have played around with slightly higher prices but have yet to sell any bulk (waiting for next smith to come along *rubs scaley hands greedily*) but then neither have the people keeping it at 5p.
