  • Is there something wrong with me?!?

    Dear Denmother,

    Here's my dilemma...

Since I began playing EQ back in late September, I've enjoyed it very much. But I constantly get razzed by my friends that got me started because i spend more time "farming" for tradeskill items than I do levelling.
I just like the aspect of being able to tradeskill and go hunting, that I do one or the other and switch. I happen to like tradeskilling more, and i don't "power-skill". I experiment, which makes my friends bust on me more for "wasting plat". But it's what makes the game worthwhile to me.
Is there Something wrong with me?!?

Ofcourse ther's nothing wrong with you !

This is a game, everyone plays games to enjoy themselves. So, everyone should be allowed to play the game in whatever way they enjoy (not harrasing(sp?) others though)

Good luck with junting for more trade suplies

Different people have different playstyles. If there's something "wrong" with you for preferring tradeskilling over leveling, then not only is there something "wrong" with many of us, but VI is going to recognize and encourage us to further stray by making a trader class in EQ2.

Anyway, this game encourages and allows different styles of play, and what works for your friends doesn't necessarily work for you ... nor does it make either style of play "wrong".

Are these real life friends that you know, or are these 'virtual friends' that you only know online?

If they are the virtual friends kind, you make want to make some new ones.

My real life friends are really the only folks that I play EQ with, they all support my tradeskills efforts, so I've got the best of both worlds. (Of course I think they all plan to use me when my tailoring gets to 250 )

My real life friends also frown upon Tradeskilling. They don't see the fun in it. Their attitude changed with the 8th May patch, however, and now with PoP it has even turned better. Actually, there are a few people in my guild who are currently setting up things to actively farm components so I can make Planar armors ... I'm not complaining The materials they provide will allow me chances to skill up, and they get some nice armor upgrades

Time to find new friends if the friends you have do not like your play style. Like folks have said everyone ENJOYS the game different. I try to mix in some exp with my farming when I can(currently doing othmir in CS for furs and exp). I did the exp grind once and it burned me out. I will probably never do it like that again. Now I take a less aggressive route to leveling and ENJOY the GAME much more.

Infinite Diversity Infinite Combinations......there is nothing wrong with you but you might want to find new "friends" who share your interest. My guild has recently taken an interest in tradeskills, much to the delite of some of its older pre-patch players. I'm still new but very enthusiastic and have been able to give some advice to others based on what I read here. When I turn down invites to group with my guildmates, they don't make fun of my farming but instead ask what I need and make offers to sell me things if I need them.

I suggest that you invest a little time into leveling too....you see the higher level you are the more efficient tradeskill farmer you will be

The original reason why I leveled to 44 and then to 49 so I could farm stuff for dark elf cultural armors faster.....then later I tasted the high end game and it changed it all but thats a different story.

I only know one person in RL who plays. He is the one who introduced me to the game. He always teased me about wasting my time with tradeskills instead of leveling. I ignored him.

Now He is wearing a bunch of stuff that I made, and I have a LOT of his pp in my bank account now!

That's the ticket! Laugh all the way to the bank about how you 'wasted' your time by counting the plat you made off of them with your creations!

Of course there's something wrong with all of us! You have to be insane to tradeskill!

I just wanted to thank you all for your time and responses! My friends are true friends in RL as well as EQ.
My main reason for this post was to make sure my enjoyment for tradeskilling was at least somewhat shared by others, as opposed to being viewed as a 'necessary evil' for PoP quests and Epics.
