  • Why no pure white or black dye colors?

Something I've always wondered, and maybe someone knows the answer ...

Why can't we dye armor/robes completely black or white?

Get defaulted to a 25,25,25 color setting if at least one value is not that or higher.

The colors exist (for robes, at least) already, but why not as options for dyeing?

White was the standart color of the fine plate
      So no need for that

The reasons for this are simple, really.

        1) Some race models "base" colour is not "white". For Example, if you set for 255, 255, 254 on a Female Half-elf, you still get a faintly creamy gold colour on the armour.

        2) A "pure black" or "pure white" would virtually erase all the detail work that the graphic designers put into the models.

If you want "black", then select 25, 25, 25 and adjust your contrast settings down somewhat. If you want "white" (and your race model supports it) then select 255, 255, 254 and adjust your gamma settings up somewhat.

Ajusting your gamma settings up also helps reduce night-vision problems.

None of that is news to me or answers what I was asking, lol.

"Old school" dyes didn't really dye black anyway. Was more a dark charcoal grey. And there was no white, like Curufea said .. just bare metal.

Adjusting the gamma is no answer, either .. that's just changing the lighting. I can make a banana-yellow robe black if I turn the lights off. And the designer's graphics are pretty much overwhelmed when people choose some neon mess and tuned out by the darkest allowable green/blue now, anyway.

What I'm basically asking is why the tinting system was limited to 25,25,25 (grey-ish at best, if you're lucky) in the first place and why it doesn't really allow an actual "white" as an option.

I always loved the jet black look of the Robe of Enshroudment. (1,1,1 .. on Lucy) and always wanted to be able to tint other robes black like that .. or close to it to still show a little of the robe design graphics .. since I've more than slightly outgrown that one, heh.

And white robes just look slick. Would be a great choice to have.

I'm also pretty sure alot of plate and chain wearers would gladly welcome a truely black armor-tint.

Not to mention the black leather possibilities.

Crystalized shadow armor from Tower of Frozen Shadow is jet black, or at least it was on the old models back then.

I would LOVE to see White leather armor but the best I can get is a washed out tan.

I know this would likely be a coding nightmare but I would like to see the base armor be able to be dyed one color and the details a different color.

                OMG! White armor?
Can you IMAGINE how hard it would be to get bloodstains out of that?

I want White Plate with gold trim and a hat with WINGS on it, dangit.
The winged hat is why I rolled a paladin in the first place. /pout.
