  • Shissar Scale Drop Rate (a wee bit rantish, but a legitimate concern.)

Well wanted to check out the drop rate on Shissar scales, so I spent 6 or 7 hours in SSRA, and all I can say is "wow". 71 scales killing a mix or clothed and naked snakes. Did not focus specifically on the snakes that happen to drop the scales, so I could certainly improve my drop rate if I tried.

This amounts to a 10x drop rate of Master's level components (over Shimmering Ukun Hides anyway) for the 3 races fortunate enough to use these on their path to 300 tailoring.

I understand that DoN armors were supposed to have many more ingrediants than actually got worked into the release. I assume that different races were originally intended use different ingrediants for the final combines, instead of bottle-necking on the same 3: MDS, GDH and CSS. If that were the case, then the market would account for differences in skillup paths. (20 of 1 race on server? Prices goes up. 1 of another race? Prices goes down.)

I am a bit concerned that the cultural charms require the same 3 bottle neck ingrediants, while not addressing the race balance in skillup paths. And remember, the final charms are race restriced, by design. yet the quality of the finished goods is basically the same across the board, independent of race.

So the quick answer is "well, if no Ogres can make GM then do it yourself." That what i am doing, but still, it can be hard to ignore what amounts to a 10x tailoring xp bonus provided to certain races, when those races are gonna be gobbling up the same ingrediants that I need.

So anyway, I do not know if this post is gonna make it past the moderators, but if it does, I've put on my bullet proof vest. I would be happy to hear what other people think about this.

(Oh, And by the way. I do not think tailoring is "easy" for anyone. This whole freakin' game is pretty hard, if you ask me.)

Well, they are working on improving the drop availability for GM cultural stuff in DoN (there's a thread about it below).

As for other things... Try Storm Volaas Hair.

Absolutely. I have read posts about Storm Volaas Hair. I thank my stars that I dont need those. How 'bout being a froglok and needing Ice Burrower Silk. Ice Burrowers are a nightmare.

I hope my post did not come off as a "woe is ogres" post. There is obviously a huge disparity in accessability to DoN armors across the board. I figured they were just rushed to get out the DoN expansion, because WoW was really taking off at that time. But seeing that the Charms (which I actually like) use all the same components as the armors, it suggests that things are working as intended.

I felt compelled to post because it struck me overnight that, while I like the new and improved DoN skillup rate, this is really going to widen the race gap in DoN cultural armors and possibly in elements in future expansions, if SoE continues to build on the DoN infrastructure.

Yeah, IB silk is indeed a nightmare...I use those and CS/WW furs to supplement my tailoring skillups, to break the monotony. As for shissar scales, I never see them for sale in the bazaar anymore, and rarely find them on merchants. I recently spent a couple of hours in Ssra and walked out with 40 scales. I just killed from the entrance: the first room, the first tube on the right passage from entrance, then all the way to the tube to the basement. By the time I had that cleared, the entrance was respawning. Pet could handle them all easily (being a mage is good for something at least).

Tailoring stinks...it seems like the only tradeskill you can't totally "buy" your way through to 300.
