    Ok...I'll do the groundwork.

    Based on the calculator now (unexpected results in bold),
    Alchemy = 4
    Baking = 3
    Brewing = 3
    Fletching = 4 (and no secondary skill??)
    Jewelcraft = 4
    Make Poison = 2 (Secondary skill)
    Pottery = 4
    Smithing = 2 (Secondary skill)
    Research = ?? better than 2? Shows 6.5%
    Tailoring = 2 (with a secondary skill??)

    Tinkering = 2

    Found as follows:
    Skill = 250
    Trivial = 300
    No mod, no AA
    Prime Stat = 315

    Expect to see:
    Y=2, No Secondary Stat, Skillup chance = 6.12%
    Y=3, No Secondary Stat, Skillup chance = 5.74%
    Y=4, No Secondary Stat, Skillup chance = 4.31%
    Y=2, With Secondary Stat, Skillup chance = 6.18%
    Y=3, With Secondary Stat, Skillup chance = 5.77%
    Y=4, With Secondary Stat, Skillup chance = 4.52%

    Of course, Ngreth will have to let us know if the unexpected results are errors in the calculator...or something else entirely. (Or if I somehow goofed.)

      Fletching was confirmed as 4 and Tailoring as 2 at the last Fan Faire. However, Tanker also told us that fletching should have an alternate stat -- Dex. Tailoring should NOT have an alternate stat.

      If I have some time later, I'll run some simulations with Ngreth's calculator against an Excel thing I've cooked up and see if I notice any oddities.

        A long long long long (pre-Kunark here) time ago, I recall reading from a dev (don't recall which or where) that research was the easiest skill in game to raise based on the formula.

        Take that for with a grain of salt... I could be imagining things.

          why yes it is... which is part of a reason I am not worying about how "difficult" it is to raise research. it is not.

          I used some old data on the ones that used alternate stats. so I may have been wrong there... I will have to consult with Tanker on that one.

            The calculator is showing the minimum Int to get the same skill up chance on failures as you do on successes to be 215 for research. That coresponds to Y=1.

              Now, Ngreth has told us that this is going to change sometime in the future. Instead of replacing your pass 2 success, Master and GM armor will add to it. So for example (if they keep the 5% and 10% numbers), at 200 skill you would have a 15.5% chance of a skill up on Master armor, and a 20.5% chance on GM armor. At 269 those numbers would be 10.48% and 14.98%. We don't know how long till that change goes in, but with that on the horizon, and no benefit currently for doing Master combines for sub 269 skill, I would recomend saving up Master combines for later.
              Did that ever happen?

                It should have happened this patch (Tanker made the change not me!)

                the old "min skillup" should now be a skillup bonus.

                  I've been getting good skill up rates on GM tailored augs since patch, even though I don't want them =/ Wish I could toggle if I wanted to get better or not =)

                    Yep, noticed this quite readily over the weekend, 80 combines yeilded 10 skill ups. 264 to 274.
