  • Looking for a Guide for hunting TS mobs

Im a long time player looking to solo up a beastlord casually. My goal is to take a different approach to the game than to power though the levels in the same 6 zones as all my other chars.

My goal is to exp in zones against mobs that drop commonly needed TS items and to play around with all the skills i can. I'd like to find a guide or thread that tells what is farmable at what levels. I started off the low levels doing some easy rockhoppers, but what could I farm in the teens, twenties, etc.?

    Any help is appreciated.

If you are mainly looking for things to use yourself, we need to know your race. DoN items is probably the best route if you are looking for items that would be appropriate for your tradeskil levels. For many older components levels you need to get items that go together, do not macth the hunting levels required.

Oooh! I have lived this one! I collected parts to make leather padding in from about 12th to 26th level. By the time I was 26th level, my smithing was at 239 and I had many many days played. I also was working my tailoring up using spider silk recipes. I still can't walk by a spiderling without killing it and looting any silk it drops.

From about 10th to my early teens I hunted pelt bearing animals in EC and eventually WC. Most of the animals top out at 10th level, meaning they go green when you hit 15. Kodiaks are blue a fair bit longer though.

15 – 20 was a tough range for me. This was during early Velious and my gear was banded until I was able to make myself fine plate armor. Twinks nowadays will plow through the stuff that challenged me so.

Once I hit 20, I moved to East Karana. I hunted Chasm Crawlers and any cat. The cats were mostly green, and the Chasm Crawlers were barely blue. When I got more used to the place, I would start to add Crag Spiders to my diet. They stayed blue well past 25, so I got a lot of experience from them.

Also, I occasionally went to Uguk and hunted the Heart Spiders (15th level mob) for their silks.

You can find animals that drop meat for baking at just about any level!

Once I hit 25 or so, I started hunting in Stonebrunt Mountains. The animals there do not drop ruined pelts, so it was pelt heaven for quite a while. Also in your 20s, you can do the Hollowshade War and kill the mobs there for Wailing Substances and Howling Substances (smithing) while you still get exp for them.

Nowadays, there is Marus Seru for the hopper hides and LQ pelts. This is doable from the early 20s to the mid 30s. There are the Rockhoppers in Dawnshroud Peaks to carry you after you exhaust Marus Seru. There are the Poachers in Jaggedpine that you can start to group in your 40s and solo in your 50s.

There is Crystal Caverns! Once you hit your 30s you can collect Velium here as well as crystalline silk for tailoring. This is a great zone, and still one of my favorites. After killing a while, you will get good enough faction to bank and sell to the Dwarves in the basement there! A bit later you can farm velium in Velks. Many classes can solo there in their 50s and get experience there into your 60s.

Acrylia farming can be done from experience granting mobs for many many levels. The lowest acrylia dropping mobs are the Sambatas in Dawnsrhoud Peaks (can do in 30s), then the Grimling Caves in Tenebrous Mountians, then Grimlings in Grimling Forest (tunnel to Acrylia Caverns), then Acrylia Caverns itself, then The Deep, then Akheva Ruins. You can get exp in Inner Acrylia, The Deep and Akheva at 70th level!

Also, Acrylia Caverns has Black Acrylia drops which can be used with Akheva Blood from Akheva Ruins to make Black Acrylia Weapons.

Other things to do at various levels.

Zombie Skins – zombies are mobs you can take in your teens (Unrest has lots of them). The skins are used in pottery recipes with triv around 180.

Baking Goodies: There are baking goodies almost everywhere. Tae Ew Meat (CT) any meat looted from any PoP zone, can get you exp while you hunt from your 50s to 70.

Twilight Sea has some tradeskill drops. The elemental island, (doable in your 30s) has Essence of Wind (acrylia smithing), and several old school cultural drops like lava rocks and drops of mercury. The Shadow island drops swirling shadows used in making Shadowscream Steel armor. These guys give experience well into your 50s.

CT has the Tae Ew Blood Vials that can be used for smithing. Some classes can solo here in their early 60s, and many mobs are still dark blue at 70.

There is a bunch of stuff in OoW and Gates that I am not covering. Maybe someone can fill in the blanks for some of those. In summary, I have been able to find mobs that drop tradeskill goodies to group or solo for since I was in the single digits.

An excellent thread I keep reminding myself with

        Guide to blue mob leveling

Is a great thread for inspiration!
        Ten.
I call for the elimination of EQ levels 1-50.
