  • Summit Update

A bit of an update from the summit, and some tidbits on today's update that I heard.

Rumor has it that the merchants banded together and demanded a DONE button be put on their interface, or they were going to stop selling all the Developer's wares (you know, the stuff that comes with the -- for the quantity.) The Devs agreed to this demand, lest they face a decrease in the amount of plat they were earning each day, and so, there will be a DONE button on the merchant window coming with Today's Patch.

I also heard that the Dark Elfs got fed up with the Troll Cultural vendor, and evicted him from Neriak. Having no where else to go, he wandered the terrain for several days, but ultimately, found his way to Grobb, where he has set up shop.

The devs also recognized that pottery is still a tradeskill, and decided that they should probably do something about it, so they are adding in some cultural auguments.

I asked about skill up paths for the various tradeskills. I was told that there's something in the works for fletching, but I was unable to determine if there was anything for tailoring.

I asked about shaman potions that required foraged items. I was asked for a list of them, so they could have a look. The people at the Crucible have provided me some input, which I will forward back to them. One of the items, the invis potion should be made stackable though (hopefully with today's update.) There's also a potion (cloudy potion or something, that requires a drop or forage from a LDoN (swamp vines I believe) and because of the rarity, the potion is very difficult to make. I will compile a list and forward on to Maddoc and Ngreth.

Unfortunately, not everyone at the summit wanted to discuss tradeskills. Can you believe that!?!?!? Maddoc asked me to forward on my list to him, and he'll take a look at it. I haven't had a chance to do that yet, because of the weddding, but it's high on the list of things to do.

I spoke to Ngreth about the disparity in the cultural ingredients and he said that he and Maddoc have spent some time looking into the issue and will decide on what adjustments are needed sometime soon. I think Maddoc also mentioned that he's looking at the quests as well, to ensure those are balanced (though I'm a bit fuzzy on that last issue, for some fermented grain induced reason. )

Oops. I'm late for a meeting. Will post a bit more later today when I have the chance (I also need to find my notes.)

My aren't we all comedians tonight!

That was one thing on my list, that I wasn't able to get to. I would have taken up the whole open session, and finally Ky told me to sit down and shut up (well, not really, but it sounds better when I tell it like that.)

That will be on the list I send to Maddoc and Ngreth when I'm able to put it together.

Did those merchants give any indication why they put the DONE button on the exact same side that SELL/BUY used to be?

I'm finally starting to only click DONE by mistake 4 times each purchase I try to make instead of 6-7 times in a row.

SOE does that on purpose, so that we are all confused.

I can ask that they be switched, but by the time it rolls out (assuming they agree to switch them) everyone would have gotten used to the new positions.

Just don't... I'm already used to it.

Funny thing about UI's... once you get used to something its really annoying when its changed (even when that change is ultimately for the better). In this case I don't see that it makes any difference one way or the other so just leave it.

                    Actually.

It was done because that is exactly where people first asked SOE put it. SOE was originally asked to "put it where it used to be"

It is just the people started to get used to no done button... exactly as SOE expected, but... people just would not drop it... so... it was put back exactly where it used to be as requested. No-one or very few people modified the request to add the done button to a NEW spot... it was just continuing request to "add a done button like it used to have" and what do you know... that is where it used to be!

SOE Gave people exactly what was asked for... so... be carefull what you ask for!

It never should have been removed in the first place.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

                      Applies rather strongly to UI's.

well.. that goes with another more general request... to simplify the UI... So in some peoples mind it WAS broken.

Why do you need 3 ways to close a window, the other two available are not good enough? So it was simplified as the general request was, and went from 3 ways to close, to 2 ways...

There is the little top right "x" (circle in this case, but still there) and escape.

Not really agreeing or disagreeing that it needed to go away... just pointing out that in a way, it was requested that the done button be removed... maybe not directly... but there...

The "x" is too small at high resolutions.

Hitting escape has other undesireable functionality in this case.

That is, it first closes any bags you have open before it closes the merchant window.

So if like me, you run around vendor shopping or tradeskilling with your bags open, you'd have to hit escape multiple times to close the merch window, then reopen all your bags again.

By your logic, the tradeskill window, inventory window, container windows, bank window, etc. don't need a done button either, but they all had one roughly in the bottom right corner... so you know, consistency and all that.

In any case now I think it's fine.

Having the functionality of the done button restored is what I wanted. I plan to rewrite that window to fit my exact needs (like place done on the left side or something similiar). Just need time to review the code.

For those who feel the done button should be on the left side.
