Actually the statement is very true. Making money in tradeskills is not hard. It just requires time, and market awareness.

You can indeed make 7M plat off CEs. You simply need to make 2M CEs. It all comes down to identifying the market where you can make a profit, and supplying that market.

Well said. I have been tradeskilling for almost 5 years now and being aware of what others want is very important. You must also try to find a niche where an item is of decent value but few others are providing. Currently I find on my server that bazu sleeves are well liked but only 2 suppliers(1 being me) are selling them.
Right now I am making millions of plat selling the GoD spells(I am the only seller so far ). This is another tradeskill wave I have been able to ride. The first being BD cultural platemail followed by nightmarewood bows, tae ew shields, etc.. Each expansion seems to have one. Try to watch what beta players are saying about the next expansion and plan accordingly. I had Arcane Tongues 3 ready when DoD went live and I am loving it.
Keep plugging away and you will learn the market trends on your server. You really have no choice. Just by playing the bazaar you will learn without really trying. Of course it will take time. Don't expect to become a savy marketeer in a few weeks.

I'll tell you 1 way that I've made "free money".

Player_01 tells you "I want you to make item_x, but I'll gather the components and you just do the combines"

Me: Ok, gather enough to do 3 attempts of the item. Once I make the item for you, I get to keep whatever supplies are left over (if any) as my fee.

You can apply this type of transaction to any item in the game. The more skill you have, the better chance you will have a "profit" of extra supplies to keep (and make stuff to sell).
