since EQ is very much an AD&D clone in terms of monsters and what not (owlbears, gnolls, golems etc), I'd assume this would be something along the lines of a Mind-flayer since we havent seen much of them around in EQ.. unless you consider the Thought Leech/Horrors from luclin as mindflayersPetercorbin Goblynfoe, the Elusive 65 shaman
