  • More skill up on success?

    Fished my 1000th cobalt cod.
AEed my 2000th owlbear and sonic wolf.

Simple question if anyone knows, the UI shows trivials with color codes the exact same as conning mobs. Has it been figured out if you gain more skill on yellow/red than light/dark blue?...

You have a better chance to skillup on a success than a fail, so blues in theory will skill you up faster. I think the only exception *might* be cultural armors because of the way they're flagged.

The colors themselves mean very little, other than allowing you to visually eyeball whether a combine is above your current (modified) skill level.

Your chance to skill up on almost any combine is the same, with two exceptions. First, certain combines (specifically, the Master and Grandmaster cultural armors and I think the Omens tradeskill augments) have a fixed chance to skill up that's higher than your normal chance. Second, your chance to skill up on a successful combine is roughly double your chance on a fail.

So overall, if you do "dark blue" combines, you will have more successes than if you do, say, "red" combines, which in turn increases your chance of getting a skill up -- but the dark blue doesn't mean anything in and of itself.

Do we know if the minimum chance to skill up (on Master's and Grandmaster's) applies regardless of success or failure?

The minimum chance to skill up only applies to pass 2 of the skillup check calculation. So, if you fail pass 1 (which in part relies on whether you succeeded or failed the combine), then the enhanced chance to skill up never comes into play. This is why it's still important to have your primary stat maxed and work close to your skill level (to improve success rates).

I would not get too excited about the minimum skillup chance on DoN armors. If they are there, then I believe they are scaled back, based on max stats. (No can't prove.) There have been a mix of reactions to skill up on DoN armors, but it seems that the people that are happy are at, or near, max stats. The people that are not happy are in the 250-300 range. I have been running maybe 1 skillup in 30 with Wis around 290's for most of my skillup attempts. I am so convinced that Tailoring difficulty has been bumped (also can't prove), that I am now putting AA's into stats. And stats used to be way down on the list for me.

Currently at 261 tailoring with Mastery 2 and now Wis at 310. 1 skillup in 30 is about what I have come to expect. A bit rough ('bout 7000pp per skillup, unless bazaar prices go wack), but is bearable. However, if you are execting 1 skillup in 20, it kinda feels like a kick in the teeth.

Yes. The "min skillup" is on the pass two. So it is important to get it past pass 1 (which is stat based)

Maddoc anounced at the summit that it is being changed from a "min skillup" to a "skillup bonus" It will still only be on pass tow, but it will add to your current skillup chance instead of being a floor to your skillup chance

And no, I am not sure when that is going in

So, if I'm reading this right...

Assuming that the GM armors give a 10% "bonus", you would calculate the normal chance to skillup and then ADD 10 to that percentage? Or would it add 10% of that rate?

For example, let's assume that without the bonus, I have a 5% chance of a skillup...would I then have a 15% or 5.5% chance with the bonus?

It would be a 15% chance now.

In the past, the 10% minimum skill up would be applied instead of the 5% in your example. Now, it will be applied in addition to it. (I should say, when this goes live, this is what it will do.)

                    Just to re-inforce

                    It is what nalrog said.

                    Cacluated chance at skillup 4.15%

Making item with "min skillup" of 10%

                    OLD system.

New Skillup Chance would be 10%

                    NEW system. (not yet live)

New Skillup Chance will be 14.15%

                    Caclulated Chance of 12.5%
                    OLD System 12.5%
                    NEW System 22.5%

Again... this is only pass 2. remember that the caclulator on this site integrates pass 1 into the calculation... so it may not indicate the full chance.
