Are there any races that do not require Glossy Drake hides or Metallic Drake scales to make their GM armors and/or augments?

metallic drake scales are needed for augments. think it varies for the armour though, whihc is a little mean on the people who do need them, considering bazaar prices.

No. All augmentation recipes are independent of race. The GM aug recipes require Glossy Drake Scales for tailoring and Metallic Drake Scales for smithing.

From a quick search on this site, I find the following...

These races use GDS to make GM leathers: Barbarian, Halfling, Half Elf, Human, Iksar, Ogre, Troll, Wood Elf, Vah Shir. That's all the races which include leather classes.

Every race has either GM plate or GM chain and every set uses MDS.

In addition to the ones you listed, Coarse Spider Silk is used in Grandmaster Armor. It's used to make silk armor for every race that has robe-wearing classes: human, iksar, gnome, erudite, high elves, frogloks and dark elves.

So, if you want to make grandmaster armor AND avoid both MDS and GDS, you could choose one of the silk races and hunt Coarse Spider Silk instead. I don't think it would help any.

I think humans may be the only race that can make all FOUR types of GM armor.

I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.

Thanks for responses. As an ogre beast tailor (yes, this ogre loves his knitting), I've been feeling the pinch on GDH's. Was considering other, more viable race/classes combinations for tailoring path. Course spider silk looked promising for the dress (er robe ) wearing classes, but posts would indicate that the grass is just as brown on that side of the fence.

Hard to beieve I am even thinking this, but Tailoring Mastery 3 just might be my shortcut (ack, how many aa's?) to getting m'GM leathers.

Iksar. Iksar and Human ar ethe only two that can make all 4 (leather, silk, chain, plate) types of armor. The other races each lack one or more of the Chain, Leather, Silk armor types (every race has a plate armor). You'd think given the supposed (though long gone) restriction against plate that the Iksar SK and War would also wear the chain, but ...

Glossy Drake Hides and Metallic Drake Scales drop in Creator. Coarse Spider Silks don't. So silks are rather rare.

However, Grandmaster silk armor only adds a couple AC and about 10 hp/mana over Master silk armor, so it hasn't mattered all that much.

Confirmed drop of GDH and MDS in Creator?

Any other confirmation that these drop in Thundercrest? Noticed some posts on this site and alla a while back that they dropped only in Stillmoon. Dropping in Thundercrest would indeed be welcome news. (Now if they would only drop in non-instanced zones.) Thank you for this update, Syphan.

Yes, both drop in Thundercrest. I've actually had Creator missions where both dropped.

Any idea if they drop in the 63-67 tier, or only in the 68+ tier?

I've been doing stillmoons for a while in the 63-67 tier, and have yet to see any... given that the armour is makeable at 65 now, it would make sense for the drops to be added to that tier as well.

I've only seem them drop in the 68+ Tier groups. Also, whoever said there is only a miniscule amount of AC/hp upgrade between Masters/GM armor really hasn't looked. For most classes the AC increase per item is at least 20%.

The ac on the silk grandmaster vs. master is around 100% better actually. But the issue is that since AC is regarded so lowly by the silk classes, its not really worth it.

Ah ha! So true. I'd forgotten about Iksar shamans.
