  • Best Places to Forage?

What are some zones where one is going to forage the best stuff to sell in Bazaar?

    To break the question down:

    (A) What zones have the highest percentage of sellable stuff. Like most forages you get will sell for some decent price, instead of half of them being things like roots and fruit? If the top answer is a zone with a minimum level, then, also, is the best one without a level limit?

    (B) What zones have items of the highest value, regardless of the percentage? Same qualification: with or without limit.

I do a lot of selling of tradeskill fodder, and foraging for stuff to sell wouldn't be a bad idea. It'd also be quite a service to other tradeskillers, considering how many foraged things seem never to be available in bazaar, to my own frustration.

and loads of lesser sellables. But still decent.

there was an excellent thread a couple of years ago from someone that actually compiled a data base of which zones produced the best foraging results. If it is lost, I have copies I can try and post.

Best zones to forage, as you point out are those that have the least number of items which should theoretically increase your chances of foraging the rarer items. Looking under the foraging section of the trade supplies section will help determine that. It would help if you stated your level also. And if your foraging skill isnt maxxed, doing the easy quest for the foraging machete will help a bit.

I have found that the following are generally good-selling foraged items:

tufts of dire wolf fur -- several velious zones
      plant shoots -- jaggedpine
      tea leaves -- east karana
branch of planar oak -- plane of growth
wurm and dragon eggs -- western wastes

Don't forget the foraged items for the dyes for LoY ribbons. Especially well-selling are bamboo shoots from Stonebrunt.

When I was levelling my druid, I specifically went to zones with fast selling or usable
for me foragable items. NK for cabbages and plains pebbles to make lucky cabbages
which sell for 50plat each on my server. EK for tea leaves. And, in 7 or 8 levels in
Stonebrunt, I made around 40K off the foraged bamboo shoots.

Wow...how much do they go for, and what percentage of the loot is sellable in Stonebrunt? What percentage is bamboo shoots?

At the time, I would sell the dyes made from the shoots for 100 each. This was a year or more ago and prices do vary from server to server. The drops from mobs aren't that great although, apparently, pandas accessorize a lot. Quite a bit of jewelry drops off of them and some gems and words or pages, IIRC.

LavaSpinner's (new zone from LavaStorm) is great.

I'm up to 27 individual forages, not including the regular 5 (Berries, fruit, veggies, pod of water, fishing grubs).

Most get a nice sell, too.

Westerns Wastes is good. Drake, Dragon, and Wurm eggs + Tufts of Dire Wolf Fur all in teh same zone.

Does anything good forage in Cobalt Scar? You could forage and fish at the same time. The cod are used in the arctic wyvern armor.

Basically you can forage all the stuff for Shellcracker's Seaside Salad - a very tasty item from the look to it, but not a cash crop!

Catha, that was you selling that Bamboo dye for my Erudite robe? No wonder it was so over priced! (/jk Hugs, my sister)

nice thing about plant shoots in jaggedpine is that they are a 'two fer' -- they are used to make dyes for ribbons AND for baking skillups.

You never stated your level and that makes a difference to me. For example, foraging in demand items AND getting experience while hunting is a strategy I try to follow. So again, using the plant shoot example -- foraging while killing gnolls in the low to mid 50s is yet another 'two fe' or grouped in plane of justice while foraging baking components there. Similarly, tufts of dire wolf fur and eggs in Western Wastes in the high 50s while hunting for velium hound fur that also sells for a pretty good price on its own.

Also, if you havent done this yet, make an auto forage/auto inventory hot key tied to movement to further simplify the process.

Nolrag got me thinking about fishing - foraging zones -- best one that comes to mind would be east karana -- tea leaves and plains pebbles foraged, and thunder salmon fished for brewing. Supposedly thunder salmon can be fished in jaggedpine as well but the river area can be dangerous.

It makes a difference what you do between Forages

Are you really interested in sitting at the keyboard hitting the forage button over and over for a long period of time? Or do you want to hunt or do other things while you're there?

Or, are you looking for a place to set up a forage bot to run while you're AFK?
I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.

Which of course, would be bad, against the EULA, and could subject you to suspension and/or banning.

Well, I figured if I asked it without a judgement, he might answer. Stating that it's forbidden kind of biases the response, doesn't it?

Forgive me if I'm paranoid. Someone wants a forage zone... but if they were going to hunt there, they would have mentioned a level range, wouldn't they? And if they don't want to hunt there, wouldn't they get bored REAL fast with hitting the forage button over and over? It just seems really suspicious.

when i have foraging to do (which i barely have the patience to do for myself, let alone to sell to others), i often set up my or my husband's foraging character on my second machine, while i do something else on my main computer. sometimes the "something else" is EQ related, sometimes it isn't, but i'm here, just not paying attention. i suppose you could call that a bot, but i'm actually here hitting the forage button when i think of it, not getting bored, but not really paying much attention either (meaning, i WILL miss tells, especially if i wander off to do the dishes or something, but no foraging gets done then either). i (perhaps naively) assumed this other guy was gonna do the same thing =)

i do try to get a "two fer" when i'm foraging, but it's more dictated by what i'm after at any particular time, rather than by what will sell well. like, at one point i couldn't possibly forage enough morning dew, so i foraged in L Faydark cuz i could also get Sylvan Berries, instead of G Fay where i'd get cinnamon sticks at a different time in my baking career.

as for an answer to what sells best, i don't know because i have always used up all the foraged stuff i got =p
