Just did that. Only Expert's Lightring armor exists on Luclin. Not even Journeyman has been made here yet.

Actually, if you're willing to burn through some MDS's (or GDH's or the coarse silk stuff) and you have the relevant Mastery 3 AA, you can make the armor at a much lower than 300 skill level.

241 smithing, 253 after geerlok, Salvage 3 and BSM3. I've successfully made 1 GM chain legging (1 attempt), 2 GM plate leggings (5 attempts, 2 sheets total salvaged on the 3 failures), and 1 GM legging aug. In the doing of this I went from 239 to 241 smithing (both skillups on making the GM metal combine, not the armor combine itself).

Kharakid, I don't know your level (though I assume its over 65 if you're looking for GM armor). Nor do I know how many AA's you've gotten, nor how quickly you earn more AA's. However, it might be worthwhile for you (and your guild, if you are in one) to skill up and spend the AA's to be able to make the stuff. Its not like getting to 222 will be hard from where you're at, at least (time spent farming CC for both plat and velium, and maybe 3 AA's).

According to EQRankings, the highest halfling smith on Luclin with an uploaded Magelo is only 263 skill (Restim) - don't know him/her, but I imagine the fail rate would be right nasty - it was for me in tailoring when I was trying to make a GM set at that skill range, must have taken 40 or so hides before I got the full set made, with TM3

Back when the market was good, I used to try to keep all of the chest symbols in stock, since that combine isn't racially restricted - likely it was myself or Kyros selling the symbols you saw... symbol market has crashed on our server though due to Yuhl and a few others having a pricecut war though, not worth making them except to order now that they go for 30-40k. Tried to talk rationally to him when he dropped prices to 75k when everyone else had em standardized for 100, because he was ruining the market - his reply - 'im not ruining the market, I'm selling plenty of em'.

Thank you for all the info, never thought to look at magelo's like that either!
I am somewhere around 188 in smithing, Lvl 66, currently 2 unused aa's, 161 of em total. I actually have completed all of the quest up to having but not started the GM book part where I need to kill 120 stillmoon mobs, have heard something about that part being bugged atm though. Anyone know anything else about that? I "Could" make the journeyman stuff and actually thought about it to see if any of it would sell. I know it would be cheap, something to do though.

If I recall, I cannot get the GM book till lvl 70 and I prolly would be drooling over some other pieces of armor by then. Or have better already. I am still running around with a livestone tunic on atm, that is what I am looking to replace, really like the additional aug slots on the new armor, going from 52 to 85 AC and from 90 to 145 HP I believe with the GM tunic and storms aug would be HUGE for me.

That seems to be the pickle now, unless I am mistaken about the lvl req to get the last book. I cannot attemp them myself until lvl 70 then I may have outgrown it by them. Frustrating to know a nice shiny piece of armor is sooo close yet still beyond my reach!

I am gonna look up that tailor on Luclin and see if he/she still is even playing and hope I get lucky and find this person in game. Guess us haflings are more apt to take the baking/brewing path, just seems to be our nature!

Hope I am wrong with the lvl thing though, been a couple weeks since I worked on that task. Some of the details have slipped my memory for now.

Thanks for the help everyone. I know by the way SOE designed the whole thing this armor is a major PITA from the word go. Is nice though, bet I would look pretty good in it!

            Wish me luck!

The GM task was changed shortly after being released, so that characters level 65+ can get the task. Depending on what you raid, you may find the GM armor pretty nice even at level 70. I upgraded to GM armor after reaching level 70 (plate wearer), and I find it on par or better than anything I could find in groupable or elemental gear.

More to the point, ANY level character can make armor. A level 1 toon with appropriate skill can make GM armor.

The tasks that involve collecting four different drops from newbie zone result in a book used to make armor molds and patterns. These molds and patterns can make any tier of armor.

The extensive tasks that require high numbers of collects are for getting books that make augment patterns. You only need to do those quests if you want to make your own augments.

If you are willing to buy the augments from another person, or if you know a tradeskiller who can make them for you, there's no need to do the quests. You can just do the armor book quest (which should take all of 15 minutes) so that you can make the racial armor yourself.

Kharakid, you're a ranger. Why are you gonna look up a tailor?

To clarify, are you saying a level 65 smith that puts in the effort can do the GM armor? I wasn't aware that the level 70 restriction was dropped. I hope what you say is true as my smithing dwarf is level 65 now. I hadn't bothered with don cultural because I thought I needed to be level 70 for GM.

                      Zum ...

A level 15 dwarven paladin who has put forth the effort and gotten the Dwarven Ancestral Armor book, and has been gifted with enough money to get to 300 smithing, can make the GM armor.

However, the quest for the GM book will be unavailable to said dwarf until he hits level 65. As a result of this, he will be able to make the armor, but not the augs, until then.

                        Problem

Much of the Master/GM armor is very good. The problem is that there is no easy way to stumble across it in search for normal players looking for stats. Most people search by a stat and most items have crappy stats before they are augmented

As has already been said, you can make any level of Armour no matter what your character level is.

It's often better to be higher level, since it's easier to get high stats which gives you a better chance to skill up.

I have not failed any GM armour combines, but have been unable to sell any GM armour in the Bazaar despite being the only person selling GM Moonglade armour most of the time (one other person has a BP & Greaves, but I'm the only one with all the pieces available).

I can't make the GM Symbols yet because I'm only level 61... and can't even get the quest until I'm 65 anyway. The Master level Augs seem to sell moderately well though... of course, that confuses me too, since I never see any Yttrium for sale anymore so I haven't made any Master level armour in awhile and I only make the Symbols of Growth anyway.
