  • Looking for an item of [gate] effect and similar.

I remember when PoP came out, there was an item that has the similar effect of gating to the home town, BST can gate to their home town, DE to Nektulos Forest, Shaman to Halas, and so forth.

If I remember correctly, it goes into the Range slot, and the cast time is 30 seconds.

I can't exactly remember the name of the item, and its so long ago, I was wondering if the kind folks of this board could help me remember.

Thanks and appreciate it in advance.

You're probably thinking of Faithstone of XXX (CLR) or Spiritstone of XXX (SHM).

You could also use the vial of velium vapors. It's part of the shawl (or is it the ring? I always mix those up) quests and will gate you back to Thurg (helps to not be KOS there of course.) I've used it a couple times when I was stuck in a tight spot.

there are also these pretty things called... potions...
not *gate* potions.. but Potion of shadeweaver Frost, and a couple other places..
OK.. 30 second cast time on them, not something for in a fight, but I like em for when I'm farming..
I always look for these in the bazaar, then I go find my friendly neighborhood shammy (cuz none are ever for sale) and pay him/her to make me 10 dose versions of the shadeweaver one and the frost one.

The name of my talisman is "Small Clockwork Talisman". This quest involves PoI, PoJ, PoV, PoTranq and PoK. It uses a Quintessence of Knowledge for each cast, which is made using alchemy, but substantially cheaper than a gate potion. It always returns you to PoK, regardless of where you bind, which has saved my skin when I bound in odd places like City of Mist. There are farther versions with more charges, but mine started with 5. I've got about two charges left and I'll look into upgrading it to the next step up. Eventually, this trinket has unlimited charges.

If you're willing to spend the time getting your pottery skill to 130-ish, the "Vial of Velium Vapors" is a good deal. You do need positive faction with the dwarves of Thurgadin, both to make the potion and to be safe in using it. The "thurg potion" is used and consumed in the 4th Coldain Prayer Shawl quest, but you can make more. This potion is LORE, so you must make a new one each time you use the old. Each dose requires 3 crystalline silk, 2 small peices of vellium and 1 small brick of velium. (3, 2, 1, may help you remember) Those may cost you up to 200pp in bazaar or more if you're unlucky. However, they may all be farmed in Crystal Caverns fairly easilly. The bricks do not stack, so be prepared to sacrifice some bank space.

These have different uses. For my melee types, I carry both, and sometimes a gate potion too.

The faithstone and spirit stones are only usable by priest classes. Those guys already have Gate, but there's situations where they can save a lot of hastle. They are unlimited charges.

            ** EDIT**
Removed "and must be equipped to activate." for faithstones. Didn't do enough research. Sorry.

I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.

Aye, I use my Spiritstone of Everfrost from inventory all the time. Extremely handy trinket.

If they are usable from inventory, how do they restrict their use to shaman/cleric?

Or can anyone use them? (I'd always thought not.)

Most items clickable in inventory have an 'any slot/can equip' requirement which means you can click it from anywhere as long as you can equip it.

The Faithstones/Spiritstones have a class/ level restriction on them. If your not the right class and level, nothing happens.

Sorry, I thought they said "must equip". My bad. I should have checked

                        1. Clickies can be restricted to a specific race, class, level, or whatever.
                        2. Some items can be clicked from inventory.

1 and 2 were originally mutually exclusive. The original Guise of the Deceiver was an example of this. Lots of people other than rogues and bards got them. Sony created the replacement item which must be worn. At the time that was all they could do.

That changed a long time ago. Now there are lots of items that are both click-from-inventory and restricted.

Example A: SoulFire is part of the paladin epic. It can be clicked for 5 charges of complete heal. That's even more useful than it sounds, since it's a big agro. Non-paladins did the quest for the clicky. Now only paladins can click Soulfire.

Example B: The staff of temperate flux was originally intended to be a debuffing tool for a wizard. It turns out to be a fantastic item for pulling. Many people quested it including a lot of non-wizards. I think, for a very short time, it could only be proc'd when equipped. They fixed that and I use it all the time with my wizard. Still won't work for non-wizards.

Restricting click-from-inventory to the appropriate people is now common. It's so common people just assume it works. Level 65+ can click the new KEI potions from inventory. That doesn't even raise an eyebrow.

Just because you can click from inventory doesn't mean any one can use them. Compare how Lucy shows the click for Faithstone of Mischief to the click on Amulet of Necropotence. In game the only way to tell is to actually try to click it yourself though.

The cheapest of the expendable gate options is actually the plain old 10 dose gate potion. The vendor buyback is around 1.7k, so if you sell it with 1 charge left, you end up spending just under 100 pp per charge. The Quintessence of Knowledge for the gate necks and mage talismans costs 104pp. Of course for both to be this cheap you need a shaman to make these for you at cost.
