Black Gold inlay question

Sorry for publicly displaying my ignorance... I'm not clear on one thing here with black gold inlay and aug-making.

If I read the recipes here correctly, the black gold inlay is returned on a successful combine. (In other words, it is reusable.) Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this.

The big question -- is the black gold inlay also returned on FAILURE?

For the sake of example, say I'm making a Radiant Voidflow of Pure Healing. I know the Radiant Voidflow of Minor Healing is returned on failure, but I'm not sure if the "Also Returns" entry applies to failure as well as success.

Thanx for any enlightenment you can grant me on this question.....

I can't say for sure if it's the same with the Black Gold Inlay, but I remember failing an aug for a friend who was using a White Gold Inlay. The WGI defeinitely was not returned on failure, so I'd assume the same for the BGI.

The BGI is also not returned on a successful aug combine. If it was, then we wouldn't be seeing rediculous prices for Discordant Sciorae in the bazaar.

I made a mass change to the DB the other day to try and fix something, and made a mistake. It may take me a bit to clear it up It is not returned on success.

I've salvage 3 and failed several black gold inlay combines - 3 out of 4 a component was salvaged and it was always the vial - thanks SOE you saved me 3 pp by investing 15 AA and you wasted 18 kpp for the buyable component and 300 kpp worth discordant scoriaes

If it were possible I would give salvage 3 back for even 12 AA - it lets you think positive before a heavy combine and makes you really angry on fail when you salvage nothing or only crap.

Only when doing mistle sickles endcombines salvage has a minor usage cause the system has no choice for crap all three components are worthy.

With the salvage you never know. There is a message that the tradeskillers gets in yellow that tells him he failed but he managed to salvage "x." It goes into his inventory, but the person grouped with him doesn't see it as far as I know.

I have been lucky to salvage two sheets I used metallic drake scales to make on some breastplate combines. In my case I justed handed to the person I was doing the combine for to use again when we get more materials. I was charging only on success in this particular case.

It is very rare however, even with the 15 AA's into salvage that we get that lucky. My favorite salvage is water. haha

Yeah it's hard to happen in this lifetime. I have a nice DoN augment only due to the generosity of a shaman who I helped farm a lot and made all his inlay combines for him. He went and handed me a SVM 12, ferocity 2 augment one day!!!

I must be lucky i salvaged first the discordant scoriae.

then salvaged the black gold iinlay also successfull the second time.

I havent tried to make any more augments since then.

I salvaged the black gold inlay last night when making a pure haste aug for my roommate. 345 modified alchemy + 3 levels of aa and I still fail. Roommate was a bit frustrated cause they don't get the salvage msg. Made it second try tho.

Unless this has changed in the last couple of months, your statement in incorrect. A friend of mine did a combine for me that failed and it reported to me the items he got back from salvage.

Just pharm the Improved Healing 5 aug in Stillmoon Temple off Jadewing.

Unless this has changed in the last couple of months, your statement in incorrect. A friend of mine did a combine for me that failed and it reported to me the items he got back from salvage.

Are you absolutely sure you got a report that the items were salvaged? When a tradeskiller fails, their groupmates see a message that they were able to make (item) instead -- this only shows up for items that are normally returned for a fail. Salvage would be for items that are normally destroyed on a fail.

Example: I am trying to make a Radiant Kyanite of Pure Haste. The ingredients are a Radiant Kyanite of Minor Haste (returned on fail) and a Black Gold Inlay (lost on fail). If I did the combine and failed, but salvaged the Inlay, a groupmate would see a message like this (not the exact wording):

Kyroskrane was not successful in making a Radiant Kyanite of Pure Haste, but was able to make a Radiant Kyanite of Minor Haste instead.

Now, if (in this example) my groupmate saw a message that I got back the Black Gold Inlay, that would mean he saw my salvage message. If instead he just saw a message about the Minor aug, that's the normal fail message.
