    You have to measure the 1% against the 1.74%/0.87%/1.7%. The rate of skilling up in the second example is a whopping 60% faster, i.e. 60% less combines on average per skillup.

      Brewing 250-292, about 870 combines (860 champagne magnums plus whatever I salvaged) on Brut Champagne. Used geerlok, max stat was 365 though there was about 5 combines I forgot to put on my tradeskill gear.

        Here's some brewing data while I'm at it... 400 int + trophy.
        Not all combines here were in the 95% success rate as I was doing brut champagne the whole time which explains the worse skillup rate compared to JC despite it being only a diff 3 skill.

        Only from 269 to 300 though... I can't find my data from before that.

            Baking 250-300

            Here is my baking records for Anetu from 250-300 skill. I actually have my records going back to the 100 or so range but that was all prepatch and not needed for this. All combines were done with Trophy in my ammo slot, all the MTP were done in Shadowhaven the rest were mostly done there with some in other random zones.

            I did not want to make any entry mistakes though so I did an exact copy from my notes. Also I did not want to combine skill ups from different trivials. I noted where my INT went up because of leveling. My actual INT would be well over 300 but I dont have the AA's yet.

            1833 combines to gain skill points 251-300
            290 combines to gain skill points 251-257 before patch
            1543 combines to gain skill points from 258-300 after patch

            41.42857 combines per point pre-patch
            35.88372 combines per point post-patch

            1017 successful combines of MTP
            4068 picnics dumped into guildbank or slated for same (203 stacks)

            2 skill ups on failed combines
            2 skill ups on 1 combine

            Notes:
            It seems that my increase in INT helped out with my skill up rate, whenever I hit a wall I would go level and then could get a bunch of skill ups in just a few combines. Can probably graph my skill ups using the formulae but would be best broken up for each time my INT went up.

            Working on JC now but at 279 and combines are harder to come by.

                51 combines, 3 skill ups, 2 salvages with *Salvage 1*.

                  Tailoring Skill ups since 6/29 patch

                  Tailoring - Othmir Fur Cloaks
                  Done with 450 wisdom. 540 dexterity in Guild Hall.


                  289-289 --- 200 combines. 194 success. 6 fails

                  Considering that amazing run of no skill up. I gathered that either
                  (1) skill ups are not possible in guild hall?
                  (2) the 504 dex is making something mess up?
                  (3) SOE broke the skill up formula on othmir fur cloaks

                  Moved toon to POK.

                  289-290 --- 28 combines. 28 success. 1 skill up

                  Managed to get a skill up in POK, but not in guild hall.

                  7/12 the night before the patch. Blew remaining othmir furs

                  290-290 --- 46 combines. 43 success. 3 fail. ZERO Skill up.


                  That was a total of 1096 furs (about 80% bought in bazaar at hideously inflated prices) for a total of 1 skill up. Can someone at SOE please explain how it is possible for the RNG to make a player go through TWO HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FOUR combines to get 1 point of tailoring??? THAT cannot be true. I have farmed 8-10 hours a day since the 6/29 patch. Is the formula broken on othmir fur cloaks or something? There is NO way possible my luck could be so horrendously bad. Explain please.

                    Celeste, read more of your fellow tradeskillers olders posts and you will see that both before and since the changes made to the skillup formula, it was certainly possible to have large runs of combines with only one, a few or even NO skillups.

                    It's NOT BROKEN. Yes it is possible for your luck to be bad. It's also possible that you will get very good luck on your next run. It's random.

                    One more thing, do NOT post demands for Dev attention at EQTC. We are fortunate that they come here at all, but it is a privelge for us that they do. Posts for Dev attention are more likely to get a response at at the EQLIVE, The Artisan's Way forum. Although being polite would help.

                      One way to think of how you can get this result is:

                      Fail 200 in a row at some point during 274 combines, then for the remaining 74 combines, succeed once.

                      At 289 your chance of skillng up is about 3.5%. The chance to fail to skill up 200 in a row is about 1/1243. The chance to fail 200 in a row during 274 combines is 6% (there are 75 chances to fail that many) and yours happened on the first 200 combines. I'll go out on a limb and say that getting 1 skill up in 74 combines is probably not an event with less than 16.6% (1/6) chance of happening since events like that has been observed for a very long time. So the event of getting 1 skillup in 274 combines is no less than 1%. Note that there are many ways to get the 1 in 274 result so the actual chance has to be higher, but what I listed just happens to be easy to compute and readily fits the observed pattern.

                      The RNG does not remember the fact that you fail 200 in a row and try to compensate you later. Whenever you have a large string of fails going, the best thing to do is forget about it completely, because that's how the RNG deals with it. Mentally, it might be best to limit yourself to around 100 combines at a time. While it doesn't change the outcome any, it's easier to think of each time you combining as starting anew completely and the worst you can do is fail 100 in a row, which is probably around 5% chance of happening, which you can just think of as having failed a trivial combine.

                      From this board, I got the feeling most people would prefer if tradeskill was more like leveling. That is when you make a >your skill combine it gives you some XP toward your next point of skill and when you done enough you ding the next skill point. I think EQ2 does this, but that's not how EQ1 works.
