Free skill ups

I just learned that you can go to abysmal sea and get free components to skill up most trades to 54. I did this for smithing, tailoring, fletching, baking, brewing, and jewelcraft. I heard that this can go even higher in other places, Shar Vahl was mentioned, but I can't find the merchants that do this. If anyone can help me out I'd really appreciate it. I am looking for tasks/work/quests that can increase my skill from 54 without buying materials.

The free quests in Absymal Sea are the only ones that are free like that. After 54, you'll need to either kill stuff for components ore buy them. If you are averse to buying components from vendors, I'm pretty sure that just about every tradeskill has a skill up route that avoids the need for store bought components. Some (and eventually most) will start to require some form of vendor sold components (typically things like patterns, sketches, molds, etc).

Some tradeskills (such as brewing and fletching) are easier to do just by buying vendor component for your skill ups. See some of the guides that have been written as they typically give a pretty good description of what the best (fastest v. cheapest whichever you want) way to get your skill ups.

Shar Val has some quests designed around tradeskills. The Progressive Smithing Quest is one that I am familiar with. You can look it up in the Quests section for more details.

The combines may require some vendor purchased materials, but the costs are pretty minimal. Not sure if they are an efficient way to skill up though.

Aye Mewkus is correct... the Abysmal quests that go to 54 are the only totally free, "large quantity of skill-up" quests.

There are apparently some rumors going around that there are identical quests that go higher that people are swearing up and down are actual quests. My Fiance has a guy he works with, that plays on another server than us, that believes with all his heart that there are more free Abysmal quests that take the tradeskills from 54 to 120 for free. We can't convince him otherwise even though he can't tell us anything else about the quests other than they are free, in Abysmal and go to 120. He if wants to continue believing it that's fine with me, but I wish he wouldn't tell others that play they exist when they don't. Oh, well.
