  • Achemy vs Make Poison-cheapest?

Which skill is cheapest to GM? I leveled both a rogue and shaman to the approiate level brfore realizing the Omens auguments did not require both skills. My main is a ranger so foraged compenents are not a problem.

Foraged components are still a problem in that they can only be acquired so quickly. I believe you can store buy poison up to 275. Based on my shammy friends' complaining I think poison is also the cheaper but lack concrete evidence.

Poison is cheaper by far when comparing to all the alchemists I know. However, it is still expensive in another way. Alchemists can resell a lot of their potions. Rogues can't resell their poisons with the exception of a few used in quests.

If you farm the skins for sealed poison vials and make them yourself instead of buying the vials then poison making can be done to 275 with almost no cost involved.
300 in baking, brewing, pottery, jewelcraft, smithing, tailoring and fletching. 300 poison making. 300 alchemy. 300 research. 300 tinkering. 3300 total!! Luclin server.

The only recipes I see for sealed poison vials are pottery, 188 trivial. Any details? Thanks.

Justmenow is referring to the cost of the poison vials as ingredients. If you make them instead of buying them from vendors, your costs for make poison ingredients will be almost nil.

Alchemy, on the other hand, will run you easily in the tens of thousands of platinum. Most shamans who don't have pocket foragers can easily spend hundreds of thousands of plat to go all the way to 300. Presumably the more useful potions to be made by alchemy are the balance for the cheapness of make poison, but in practice alchemy potions are very rarely lucrative.

So Poison is the way to go if augments are your only concern. See the Make Poison Recipes for the actual recipes. If you have questions about them, the folks in the Make Poison forum may be of help.

You can make advanced poison vials with Crow's Special Brew (vendor bought ingredient.) I wonder if it is a substitute for skins in all recipes.

Poison is at least 100 times easier to get to 300 than Alchemy.
I have 300 Alchemist and 300 Poison Maker.

                  Poison all the way

Easily poison is vastly cheaper. You can vendor buy all the way to 276ish and the last skills most of the ingredients (save for the advanced vials (which can be tinkered)) are plentiful on vendors (phosphorous powders, golden ember powders, tainted planar essences were among the best for me).

I skilled my shaman from 200 to 206 and spent roughly the same amount I spent getting the rogue from 0 to 300.

In fact that run on the Shaman shoved me into poisonmaking and boy am I glad it did.
