  • New Combine Attempt Message?

I just now was trying to make a silvery beige ribbon. Was in a rush and forgot to take my bamboo shoot to a brew barrel and make the beige dye. When I tried to combine just the bamboo shoot and the water to my shock I got this message:

Sorry, but you don't have everything you need for this recipe in your general inventory. You are missing a Bamboo Dye.

When did this kick in? Anyone else noticed it? I hadn't tried a combine lacking an item in quite a while so it may well have been implemented a while back and I just didn't notice. Just curious.

It's been in there a while, you just have to have the new UI recipe up and have the recipe selected from the list.

Okay... like I said, been quite a while since I did a combine without all my ingredients on me. Thanks.

[Edit] None of this is true, as Kyros points out later.

That's because the UI discourages it. The Combine button generally won't be enabled unless you have all the components for your recipe. There are some latency issues with that, tho, so an occasional attempt is allowed, but is prevented on the server and the message is sent.

That's not quite true, Tanker. Try this. Go to any forge and open it using the new UI. Either click on a favorite recipe or search for any recipe and click on it. The combine button will be enabled and you can click on it even if you don't have the ingredients for the recipe in your inventory. The same applies to every other container I've used.

Now that's being nice, Kyros. "Not quite true" should read "a load of horse hockey".

You are quite correct (ignore my previous). Looking at the code it just checks your timer, whether a recipe is selected, and that your held slot is clear. I remember now we wanted to give you the ability to be told what you were missing (this was before we put in the red/green backgrounds in the component list).

I've done five billion combines with it and those were closer to the words I was thinking when I read it , but was gonna keep my mouth shut cause the Mighty Tanker gotta know what he's talking about.

Heh. I actually thought that there might be a bug somewhere, so my assumption was that you posted the way it "should" work, rather than the way it does.
