  • DoN cultural requirements for new toons

In the past few days, I've started my level 15 Vah Shir beastlord on the DoN cultural quest. He's in full Wu's, so not too twinked, and I've kept all his earned plat in his private bank, a grand total of 77pp . The festive doll and the cha coin helped a lot there.

At level 15 I was able to get the DoN quest for the journeyman book. It was quite doable to solo, picked up 2 levels while exploring and getting the drops. Perhaps a true newbie beastlord would at least need a partner. Ok so far.

Now comes the problem: in order to make anything he could actually wear, he would need to have his tailoring up to 130. Not so much of a problem, with the GoD quest to 54 and a lot of farming, that would be ok.

However, he'd also need a Shar Vahl Sewing kit. This requires a 162 smithing combine. For a true newbie, that's simply undoable or if you'd get it that far, you'd be at least 10 levels further.

So I thought I'd log my druid and make the kit for him, however -- the combine only works in a cultural forge and a cultural forge can only be used by the specified race. So, that doesn't work.

Maybe the bazaar, but then realized, that they are not WR bags, so the baglady won't give you a coin for it.

Guess I'm spending hours in PoK then:
/ooc looking for a Vah Shir 162 smith, to make a combine in Shar Vahl...

If the combine was 50ish, like the JC combines needed for the augments, it would make sense, but to make the sewing kit have that high of a smithing trivial does not make sense to me for a level 15-20 toon.

Depending if plat is an issue on this case, you can just do an estimated 20 combines of the kit even at 0 skill to succeed. At a 5% success rate regardless of skill, it'd cost you roughly 200pp (Or something like that) to make it.

Hrmm, 10 plat each for the combine? New skill path from 130's to 162 in smithing.

Glad you bought this one up.

I started a bot, raw, untwinked, and realized the same thing. You have to not only be able to do the quests but probably have a heck of alot of plats to raise you're smithing and tailoring skills. A 168 trivial is a bit high If banded still went there then sure it is possible. But most newbies, unless they ebay(which is bad) plats or are extremely blessed by a benefactor, aren't going to have the plat to do this.

Who's this "bag lady" you're talking about?

the "baglady" is the Barbarian woman in bazaar that changes tokens into bags and bags in to token. This is something that was intruduced awhile ago so folks can sell bags.

Since bags cannot go into traders satchel to sell Sony allows us to turn certain types of bags in to the "baglady" and she gives you a token which you can put into your trader satchel and sell. The person that wants the bag back for the token then turns in the token to the baglady and she gives them the bag back.

Ginseng, if you happen to be on Vazaelle (or, soon to be Maelin Starpyre) I'll make you a kitty sewing kit. Either that or I can do the combines for you, given the materials.

Don't automatically assume that you are going to fail the sewing kit combine just because your skill is low. My friend went ahead and tried his erudian kit although his skill was only about 10 in smithing, and made it first try.

                Worth a shot, right?

Yes you have a chance but...

Here's what I did. I ran my main thru all the quests thru grandmaster and his smithing sadly was only about 115 at the time. So not knowing trivials for sewing kit, I got the fixins and hit combine. Woot I win first time. (Not lore?) I hit like 3 out of 5. Then he tried making a needle and missed 6 out of 6. Granted he got lucky and managed to get to 121 smithing during this and another couple sewing kits as a just to see what if.

So for giggles I load my smith with 243 skill. He hit on needles 2 out of 5.

Trivial is lower on needles then sewing kits last time I checked, go figure. They shouldn't be automatic but should have a reasonable chance for success. I almost feel embarassed sharing this with anyone.

I guess the non-sponsored tradeskillers will have to purchase of be very lucky for there stuff.
