  • Smithed vs tailored symbols?

I made Master's Brambleborn tunic and gloves for myself yesterday (wood elf druid of Tunare). My question has to do with the symbols for those pieces... CAN one tailor a symbol out of the leather drop specified for wood elves? Wood elves don't wear silk of course, so I had nothing to try but the shissar scales which are the specified master's (wood elf) drop, but got a DNC in the tailoring kit using a shissar scale or the master's swatch, and ended up doing the symbol combine in the forge instead. There was no trouble augmenting the subsequent symbols into the armor.

Is there a difference between tailored and smithed symbols for any given race/deity? Is there a valid recipe for a tailored wood elf symbol?

If anyone has an answer, please respond!

Apparently, people have found that the tailored version uses a nighmare silk swatch(?) instead of the master hide given in the writeup...I have NO idea where they found that information. I read all the ingame books and the writeups here...found nothing of the sort. Must have just missed something. I've just been doing mine in the forge.

Edit: BTW, this is for Vah Shir...which has no silk combines. So I'm not sure if all actually use Nightmare Silk Swatches...or if that's just races without silk and those whose master is NSS.

Woodie uses the Stormweave Swatch I believe from Storms. Rather rare items for the combine imho.

        I have tried combining

1x Master's Water of the Skeptic
        1x Stormweave Swatch
        1x Master's Leggings Symbol Pattern

in Vah Shir Sewing Kit without success. Have to switch the stormweave swatch to nightmare arachnid swatch to make the symbol.

Since (currently) the combining of (expert and master, I have not tried grandmaster's yet) symbol is quite independent of race and diety (the combining of water of diety + crushed diamond dust can be done by anyone, in a normal JC kit), I *suspect* that the making of master's symbol is universal among all races/dieties. My cases being,

With Tailoring, in cultural sewing kit:
        1x Master's Water of (Diety)
        1x Nightmare Arachnid Swatch
        1x Master's (Slot) Symbol Pattern

With Smithing, in cultural forge (I did mine at cultural forge, not sure if normal forge will do):
        1x Master's Water of (Diety)
        1x Shissar Scale
        1x Master's (Slot) Symbol Pattern

I am an agnostic Vah Shir beastlord. Anyone else can confirm from other races/dieties?

Ok, that would make sense. There's one "set" of drops universal for smithing, probably one set for the tailoring series as well, if we can get the individual items for level pinned down.

Thanks. =) This could be valuable information to have.

Ok... from a recipe in the database for Expert's Symbol of Hate, that would appear to be drachnid silk swatch for that level. I'm thinking is probably a silk swatch for all Journeyman's, drachnid silk swatch for all Expert's, nightmare arachnid silk swatch for all Master's, and coarse silk swatch for Grandmaster's. Now we just need to verify this works for all of them.

Could use verification yes, but from what we have seen that is true.

Some book somewhere in game says this, but I cannot point you to it specifically (some say it is books for sale in abysmal)
