Coarse Silk, Where Is It?

Ok, Before anyone asks...yes, I did use the search feature. Searching for "Coarse Silk" only brings up a few posts which mention silk (not counting all the hits for mentioning the name in the recipe) which are not terribly helpfull at all in regards to where to actually find Coarse Silk.

This is basicly just a copy and paste job of the contents of the cultural books inside it says...

"...a coarse silk swatch that can be made from those nasty spiders found in that dragon place. You know what I mean."

No, actually, I dont know what you mean. I have done quite a few missions in Stillmoon, Thundercrest, Tirranum's, and another spot that escapes me ATM and I have yet to see a single Coarse Silk drop, nor have any of the people I adventure with.

This thread was a DoN data submission, while it at least gives me hope that the item even exists, again, it is not very helpfull as it simply says...

"Dropped in an instanced mission involving killing spiders."

I have found a couple missions involving killing spiders, but neither of the two I have completed dropped any Coarse Silk. What zone the mission was in, what kind of spiders were being killed, and if it was a good or evil mission would be helpfull information, but it was not included.

So...I have been looking for this coarse silk since DoN launched and have yet to find it. I have seen a couple posts with stats for Grandmaster level armor, so I am sure someone has better information than can be found by using search here. Anyone willing to step up and share this information?

I've seen coarse silk off of spiders in Ascent missions ("Death Comes Swiftly" good side mission, which is mostly spiders, specifically).

After 5 hours in one instance (xping mainly, didn't go in to win a mission really) I got precisely ZERO coarse silk. Woohoo. Yeah. Awesome.

What are they thinking ?

You need twice as many drops as the other types (ie swatch = 2 silks) and I cannot even get one in 5 hours. Oh well. Cant see me making anything anytime soon. Not one single drop for sale in the bazaar yet and it seems there is next to no chance of farming any.

Has anyone tried combining two of the silks dropped by the lavaspinners?

Actually ...no.

Offhand they are
1) no drop
2) not flagged tradeskill
3) common as dirt
4) drop in lower tier missions and also normal zones

Apparently they have been sighted. They are just too rare to bother with. For the relatively minor improvement they are over masters the whole idea of GM silk is a joke.

So much more to say. None of it is even remotely polite. Hence I will not say anything more.

I've seen them drop from spiders in the normal Ascent and instanced Ascent missions. Not to difficult to kill, not that rare a drop (more limited by the number of spiders more than anything).

Yes in this mission. Only 3 boxed and DPS lacks. Probably only killed 40 spiders in nearly 5 hours. Had to clear pumas and stuff to stop agro when the spiders wander off at 20% because you cannot snare/root and with sucky dps they can get a fair way away from me.

I guess spiders are not so rare really. Just that there are so few missions in which spiders that drop silk exist. Compared to drakes which appear in a lot of missions.

I understand silks/scales/hides do not drop in lavaspinners instances. This is a joke. Some spiders in LS are lvl 68 - 70. I got a metallic drake scale 3 boxing a Thunderous Isle mission off a lvl 67 drake.
All missions deserve to have the tradeskill drops off their relative mobs. Especially now they have made the book quests open to lvl 65's and toughened up some LS missions.
