altho im 70th and in a raid guild, i am a fletcher. i was 202 skill for ages from 18th to 56th. i was the the first 250 fletcher on my server, i created a 55 enc tinkerbot to make ele cams who then got 250 tinkering, my shaman has 202 alchemy. my main increased smithing and brewing and pottery because of the tunare bows. i then increased them all (except fletching) to do aid grimel, only because i was in a guild with people who could help me grind aas and get the drops

Level 70, raid 7 nights a week unless rl interferes, usually several events a night, and yes, it can be hard to find the time to fit in tradeskills, but when you want to, you do (ever take a mixing bowl and some CE ingredients to a raid for downtime? Sewing kit and some silk swatches? JC kit to catch up on some lacquered gems? mmhmmm). Meldstones for Qvic armor were the only time my tradeskilling had anything to do with what I was wearing, and it was nice for a change for the guild to see some value in it.
I'm tired of not being considered a serious tradeskiller because I am a level 70 raider. No, I don't usually farm ingredients myself - because I can farm the pp to buy them at the same time as getting xp - I'm not going to make a stupid choice economically and with my limited time just to satisfy someone's requirement to be a 'serious tradeskiller' by those who insist you must farm all ingredients yourself, or whatever. I'm tired of not being considered a serious tradeskiller because I am level 70 and fairly well geared - this only means that in the time I spend tradeskilling I could easily be farming items to sell worth many many times the value of what I will make tradeskilling. There's only a handful of things that I can make that are useful to me or my guild... and yet I am not considered a serious tradeskiller, when I obviously have no in-game motivation to continue? puh-lease! I did my ressearch, collected my ingredients, and hit that combine button just as many times as the next person.
I don't know if I think it is fair that there is a level 70 requirement on these quests or not. But I do know I'm tired of comments about level 70 raiders not being 'real' or 'serious' tradeskillers, so maybe it is nice to have something for us 'fake' tradeskillers alone... even if the reward is the creation and not the item.

my eq life is all about tradeskills.. i do consider myself a serious tradeskiller, though im "only" lvl 67 and cannot farm many things myself.
i was very exited about the new DoN armor, until i saw the lvl 70 required thing (
i dont plan to play my main any further than to lvl 68.
knowing i will never get the 69+70 spells i decided to stay 68..when i get there )
no, i dont raid. when my guild is raiding im putting my kids to bed...
i really really hope they will think again about the lvl req. for DoN armor

Just a comment on the "Serious Tradeskiller" tag; there is no such thing. Getting bent out of shape about not being considered such, or trying to define the standards which distinguish one from the other is completely pointless. Do you practice tradeskills? Then youre a tradeskiller.I Combine, therefore, I AM.
I heartily agree that the level requirement to make tier 4 armor is way out of line and was poorly thought-out. I do, however, realize that the reality of this game is and ALWAYS will be that the more time you spend playing it, the more advantages you'll have over someone who spends less. Lamenting over this fact is more than a waste of time; it's simply pointless. Perhaps as MMORPGS evolve, things will change a bit more to include TS'ers as a full time class. Until then, lets just work with the reality that it's not going to come close to happening in EQ.Huntmaster Caelith Dawnrunner 85 +2071

Stated before, but my view is if the armor can be worn by a level 65, you should be able to make it at 65. No, I don't think a level 1 should be able to make GM gear necessarily. But it's silly to make it so the folks who can make the good stuff would generally not want it.
I take pride in making a lot of my gear. Seems silly to have to level my main to 70 so I can twink my alts.

Looks like the level 70 req for the LDoN symbols has been lowered to 65 in the patch! Woot!

I agree that someone who spends more time playing is entitled to advantages. However, in EQ you have to spend your time playing by grinding experience and raiding to have the AA, level, plat, and gear to get not only those advantages, but also massive advantages in tradeskilling.
It would be nice if there were a way to spend the time doing tradeskills to get massive advantages in tradeskills, but as you correctly point out, that is not reality in EQ, nor is it likely to be.
Also, being the one that brought up the term 'serious tradeskiller' I did not mean to paint all high level raiders with high tradeskillers as not being serious. Even when I wrote that I mentioned that many are. Similarly, some of the lower level folks are also dabblers in tradeskills. My only point was that your level, and even to an extent your tradeskill level is not the determining factor for who is serious about tradeskills. Sorry for the angst I created.

68 and do not group often much less raid. Do TS everyday at some point or another. Have a GM tophy JC and Baker, two different characters. Working all the TS up to 200 on my main a Necro, oh and have a GM poisonmaker as well. Have an army of alts and all do some type of TS.

Anguish / Tacvi raider, 5 nights a week
Like some of the other raiders that posted, I start accumulating the stuff I need to make a tradeskill run (<3 second accounts) and once I have enough I will usually take a break from exping, mission, etc and complete the run. Rinse and repeat until I reach 300. =)Casala, Mage of Saryrn

I have to admit I am a bit surprised by the nubmers on the poll. If you look at those who said they are in a raid guild compared to those who say they are not it comes out almost exactly even.
Well over a third of the repsonses come from those at level 70 and in a raid guild. I would have expected the number to be less than a fourth.
Clearly there are different demographics participating heavily in tradeskills. This has changed my perception a bit.

My character is level 53. I don't belong to a guild. I don't raid. Tradeskilling gives me a goal besides leveling. In order to work on my tradeskills I have to farm items. I gain experience as I farm items and, thus, progress in level/AA points.Onyca Xiloscient - Rodcet Nife
