  • DoN Cultural Book decay

I got this message when i did a combine with one of my cultural books:

You notice the pattern book becomes more worn as you work with it. You know it will not last forever.

Does anyone else think that this is a horribly implemented idea?

Was this the Ancestral book, or one of the Journeyman/Expert/Master/Grandmaster variety for the symbols?

Seems to me this could make a huge difference. The Ancestral books are relatively easy to scrounge parts for, but some of the symbol books are a real headache at this time.

Exaclty how many combines have you dont with it? That might give us an idea how many combines it is good for?

On a side note you might want to get the quest again right after you get the book. During normal playing, you can complete the quest a 2nd time and wait for final turn in (usually 1 item) to get a new book, when your old one wears out.

it's the one the makes the patterns & molds, and I think it's a good idea.. makes the farmer/bots have less of a chance of blowing right through. It's not like it's hard to come by the pieces needed for it.

Actually the way I read it, this is for all the books, the ancestral ones and the expert, master, grand master ones for the augs.

And I'd argue its a good idea. killing 200+ though horrors for a second book for master dwarven augs? No idea what the level 70 one will entail but getting a group together once to go kill such mobs will be amusing, getting anouther to go a second, third and so on will be painfull.

Now remember... each combine gives you 20 of each. (yes double wrist)

So if the limit is 10, you still get 200 of each pattern. if it is 20 you will get 400 of each patern. That is still alot.

I personally like the idea it equates to the fact that soemthing like that would wear out after so many uses. but that is my opinion, and you are welcome to your own opinion.

On reflection I think it is good too - it means that whoever gets there first can't flood the market with this stuff - a year from now, doing the quests will still be meaningful.

I think it is a shame if the first one wears out really - no one wants me to go and slaughter all of the Warrens for 4 hours all the time. The other 4 are needed anyway, so the first one might as well be robust.

The fear remains bank space. Between half done planes keys, epic bits, and all my tradeskilling things it will be tough to choose what to kill to manage this - so much is no-drop!

I honestly dont like the idea of doing tasks over and over again to get the books simply to make the patterns. The fact that these books decay make the higher patterns too valuable to destory and at the same time they create a waste of bank space. With the Grandmaster components being as rare as they are who's going to have enough materials to use all 160 patterns from one combine?

A good way to solve this while still using the decaying idea would be to implement a tradeskill combine to repair the books, or simply make the books buyable from vendors but for a price.

Or simply have the books decay slower, but work with standard storebought patterns and molds. That way it still decays, but there is much less of a bank space issue.

As for the books decaying, that I like. It is not enough that we support our cultures once... to be dedicated to the culture means being willing to serve that culture over time.

I think they could implement two things that would make it much easier for the tradeskill community.
                      1. Instead of the book making a stack of each pattern, meaning 8 stacks of patterns (including 2 wrist), have it make a stack or two of a special component that is used in all combines, then make the combines use normal patterns. Make the book last a bit longer to offset the fact that you don't get 20 of each for each book combine. This will save a TON of bankspace as we start to make various levels of armor.
                      2. Make a shortcut quest for thos who have already completed the regular quest once. For example, instead of repeating the entire quest, just have us do the final 2 steps again. Or come up with a completely new tasks that builds on the existing ones but that won't take as much time.

If they implement 1, then 2 may not be as neccessary. If they implement 2, then 1 may not be as important. Implementing both would be in the best interest of the tradeskill community whose time and bank space is already limited.

It's only for the Symbol books (the ones with Journeyman/Expert/Master/Grandmaster in the title). The Ancestral book is reusable as much as you want.

This is probably because the armor alone blows. But when you add in the slot 11 Symbol for the appropriate armor slot, it gets it's full stats.

Now sure why SOE did it this way. Probably to allow people who follow an odd god for their race to still use the Cultural armor (like a High Elf following Erollisi Marr or a Human following Veeshan).

I got the message on my armor pattern book. So it goes away also.

it took me 3 hours of CLEARING (except for the giant bats there was no need to waste my mana on them...) the warrens for me to get one of the parts for the armor book... and I mean clearing. I emptied the zone. But I do think I just had bad luck there
