I'm pretty sure i got one today in a mission into lavaspinners lair this morning, was a drop from one of only 3 or 4 spiders we killed before we realized group wasnt built well enough for the zone.

Cultural Tradeskill Quest broken?

Im a DE, working on the Cultural books. Did the first simple one, then completed the Journeyman book. Skipped the Expert book, and went right for my Master Book. Finished that today, figured I'de go for my GM Book. Quest that I recieved tells me to go to Lavaspinner Lair and kill 120 lavaspinners, and collect 80 Arachnid Eye Clusters. So i tread into LSL, find the spiders, and start killing. And killing, and killing and killing. The quest IS updating my kills of the spiders and that is all well and good. But where the heck are these Eye Clusters at?? Saw another necro in LSL, and he said hed been killing the spiders for multiple quests of spider silk collection, and had never heard of these Eye Clusters either. Im a tad worried that they arent in game yet. Anyone confirm or deny this?

Where are you looking to try and find the eye clusters? If you've been looking in the static zones you will have trouble finding them. As Gonodil noticed, they do appear in the missions. You may want to work with either the Norrath Keepers or Dark Reign camps in Lavastorm to pick these missions up. Hope this helps a bit.

It appears that all of the grandmaster task items only drop from the missions. I just happened to get lucky on this, as my normal group wanted to check out the missions, we got one that would fulfill that as well as my grandmaster task.

Other things to be wary of is to ensure you actually loot the item from the mob. Since I was the puller/tank, I was always looking to the next pull and noticed that I didnt get credit for any of the drops. We netted 55 kills to complete the mission and 28 of the items dropped (of which I got no credit, since I didn't physically loot the item).

Which Mission did you have that took you so close to spiders. The Drake Fang one puts you far from spiders and groups never wanna go all the way back to spiders nor would we have time to after clearing there we would have won long before reaching them.

I was doing the drake fang mission. Maybe out group was just unexplainably unlucky, but we had to almost clear the entire drake area to get the 15 fangs. Like I said, we did 1 mission and had to kill 55 drakes to get the 15 fangs for the mission and 28 of the items I needed. In that clearing, I had only about 5-7 more drakes and we were worried about getting that last fang.

Its stated elsewhere (sorry, been all over today for info but it was on another thread here or on Sony's MB) that all of the items for the Grandmaster level tasks come from the missions and not the normal zones.

Need fractured drake fangs for ogre cultural GM quest - been dropping plenty in the instanced zones, did 2 tasks and got 22..... and no credit for looting them, do you only get credit in the missions, or are the tasks from the alliance to build faction supposed to count?

Thanks for the info Redi and Gorthag! To place a task in the DoN missions we had to set the Zone field to "ALL." Despite this, players should only receive credit for looting items in the instanced zones specified by the NPC in the mission text. We've asked code for the functionality to change the Zone field in the task window (for example to "Thundercrest Isle Missions") and it should be an easy addition to the current functionality of the task system. In the meantime, check the NPC dialogue in the lower half of the task window for the target mission zone. I'll look into the wording of the task elements themselves to see if they can be clarified in regards to the target zone.



As for not receiving kill / loot credit from certain named NPCs (such as the Scion Drakes) this is a more complicated problem. For now, you should always receive credit for killing or looting from the non-rare, non-unique mobs (for example, killing any drake with "Isle" in its name in Thundercrest Isle or killing any spider with "lavaspinner" in its name in Lavaspinner's Lair). This may change in the future as we are currently revising and expanding many aspects of the task system. Thanks again,

So....you have to get a mission in LSL to collect drake fangs and HOPE that your group will be willing to also kill the spiders?

Shouldn't there be a specific mission aimed at killing spiders in LSL so that the GM tradeskillers will not have to cajole friends (or pick up groups!) into killing spiders when that s not the goal of the task?

There is a mission that involves killing 15 dervishes, spiders, and drakes, and looting 7 of an item from each, then finding the exit, in Lavaspinners. I don't remember the name though.

Arachnid Eye Clusters were dropping off almost every mob in a spider mission that takes place in The Ascent (kill 15 of type A spider, kill 5 of type B, and then boss spider). (Stillmoon mission NPC iirc, since The Ascent is inside Stillmoon).

And since more generic missions become available as your faction with the camp improves (only up to amiable so far, so only getting 6 missions on each NPC atm), maybe at kindly/warmly/ally you'll see a mission that actually calls for killing spiders in LS.
