  • What I know about DoN Cultural Smithing (and armor in general), how to make it

Edit: Thanks to everyone on beta who has helped me with this info, I did not find it out all on my own.

Most of this info can be found in the 5 books called "The Resurgence of History," sold by one of the dwarven smithing vendors in PoK.

Here are the smithing combines quests which I know and the items which are missing. Silk tailoring combines are very similar, substituting needles for hammers, sheets for swatches and so forth and so on.

I do not know how to make leather armor yet (will work on that next).

The books are said to only have a certain amount of uses before you have to get new ones. This is unconfirmed if they actually have "charges."

Quest for "Ancestral <race> Armor" (book)
    ** confirmed by me **
This is a very simple quest which involves gathering 4 items from "newbie" area mobs. The quest is given by an npc in the home city for the race, and there is a different set of things which needs to be collected for each race.

This book and the 4 books below are from a single npc in each city with the description of (Tradeskill Quests) under their name.

Tasks for the 4 symbol books: "<level_of_mastery> Book of <race> Culture" (journeyman's through grandmaster's) (books)
    ** confirmed by me **
The first 3, for journeyman through master, take place mostly in dungeons which go up by level for each level of book. The tasks are different for each race. The master's level books are places like chardok and sebilis. The lesser books are in easier places. The tasks have no time limit, and I was able to get all 3 at once. The tasks were very simple, like kill 40 of X mob and bring back 4 of Y items. The last task for the GM book seems to be in the broodlands regardless of the race (starting zone for the DoN expansion). I was unable to get the task. I am guessing I need to complete the other 3 first.

    Book Binding & Quill
Book Binding is a container used for making patterns (both for armor and symbols). These will probably be a sold item as well as the Quill, which is not to be confused with "a quill," used in spell research.

    Molds & Patterns
(These combines make an 8 slot backpack full with 20 stacked molds/patterns for each visible slot, 2x for wrists)

Molds (used for smithing: chain & plate):
    ** confirmed by me **
+ Ancestral <race> Armor (quested book)
    + huge block of clay
    + compacted backpack
    + sculpting tools
    + h.q. firing sheet
    in a kiln

Patterns (used for tailoring: silk & leather):
    ** confirmed by me **
+ Ancestral <race> Armor (quested book)
    + roll of plain parchment
    + large bottle of ink
+ quill (special quill, not the "a quill" used in spell research)
    + compacted backpack
in a book binding (book binding is not returned)

<level_of_mastery> <sheet_metal_name> Sheet (4 types, one for each level of mastery)
    ** confirmed by me **
    + <level_of_mastery> <bar_metal_name> Bar
    + water
    + <culture> hammer
    in <culture> forge

    <level_of_mastery> <bar_metal_name> Bars
    ** confirmed by me **
+ <a droped item dependant upon tier and race> (mastery level seems race specific, but GM bar used metallic drake scales, probably the same for everyone)
    + small brick of <cultural> metal/ore
    + <cultural> smithy hammer
    in <cultural> forge

    OR

+ 3<droped item dependant upon tier and race>
    + large brick of <cultural> metal/ore
    + <cultural> smithy hammer
    in <cultural> forge
    yield 3

    OR

+ 6<droped item dependant upon tier and race>
    + block of <cultural> metal/ore
    + <cultural> smithy hammer
    in <cultural> forge
    yield 6

    Armor
    ** confirmed by me **
    + X number of <level_of_mastery> <sheet_metal_name> Sheet (for plate)
    OR
    + X number of <level_of_mastery> <bar_metal_name> Bars (for chain)

    + 1 large brick of <culture_metal>
    + armor mold
    + <culture> hammer
    in <culture> forge

The number of sheets/bars are as follows:
    3: bp, legs
    2: boots, helm
    1: sleeves, gloves, wrists

    [B]<level_of_mastery> <armor_slot> Symbol Pattern
    + <level_of_mastery> Book of <race> Culture
    + quill
    + large bottle of ink
    + compacted backpack
+ roll of <vellum_quality> (from j to gm: vellum, good quality vellum, high quality vellum, superb vellum)
in a book binding (book binding is not returned)

    Symbols: <level_of_mastery> <armor_piece> Symbol of <diety>
(these are the type 11 augs that give the armor the rest of its stats)
    ** confirmed by me **
+ Dropped/bought item (from journey. to gm: warbone chips, fire opal, shissar scales, metallic drake scales)
    + <level_of_mastery> Water of <diety_descriptor>
    + <level_of_mastery> <armor_slot> Symbol Pattern
    in a cultural forge

    <level_of_mastery> Water of <diety_descriptor>
    ** confirmed by me **
+ <dropped item> (from j to gm: jade shard, lambent stone, crushed diamond dust, purescale ore)
    + (Blessed) Water of <diety>
    in Jewelers kit (jewelry combine)

To make the <level_of_mastery> <armor_slot> Symbol Pattern, I am guessing they are the result of the book binding combines on the 4 books one receives by completing the tasks from the tradeskill quest giver (<level_of_mastery> Book of <race> Culture).

    So, unconfirmed/unfound items:
    ============================
    - Where to get metallic drake scales (guessing DoN drop)

More sure stuff (probably all purchased or removed from the game):
    ================================================== ====
    - How/Where to get the Book Binding (most likely will be sold)
    - How/Where to get Quil (most likely will be sold)
-- All combines which use the Book Binding container
-- How to get <level_of_mastery> <armor_slot> symbol patterns
    - Where to get the blessing line of spells. (possibly removed from the game)
-- Where to get or how to make Fortified Water for the blessing line of spells
    - Where to buy the new clay blocks (there are 5 levels) (probably purchased)
    - Where to buy the parchments (there are 5 levels) (probably purchased)
    - Where to buy the compacted backpacks (probably purchased)
    - Where to buy large bottles of ink (probably purchased)

I BELIEVE these will be availalbe on a merchant,, so not soemthing to worry about, most probably the NPC that gives the quests (maybe quill merchants)

I do not know where to get nor how to make the <level_of_mastery> <bar_metal_name> Bars at this time.
    they are:
<a droped item dependant upon tier and race>
    small brick of <cultural> metal/ore
    <cultural> smithy hammer
    in <cultural> forge

    OR

3<droped item dependant upon tier and race>
    large brick of <cultural> metal/ore
    <cultural> smithy hammer
    in <cultural> forge
    yield 3

    OR

6<droped item dependant upon tier and race>
    block of <cultural> metal/ore
    <cultural> smithy hammer
    in <cultural> forge
    yield 6

To make the actual <level_of_mastery> Water of <diety_descriptor>, I am guessing one would use the water made from the new blessing of <diety> spell item, but I do not yet know where to find the fortified water, which is the reagent for the spell.
they got rid of the spells. I believe they (water of <diety>) will just be sold on an apropriate vendor. Recipie is:
<drop depending on tier, posibly diety>
    water of <diety>
    in Jewelers kit (jewelry combine)

sounds feasible. I was not able to test this :/

Thanks! I found the GM and Mastery level combines for DE. I added this above.

Looks like metallic drake scales are going to be a big part of GM armor.

Thanks, I added this above, though I was not able to figure out any of my dropped components.

Also, the mold combine no longer works, neither do the armor combines themselves. Guessing it's a temporary thing while they are working on the combines.

Ok......so....leather padding isn't necessary for the smithed cultural armor?

If the cultural armor spans all trivial levels, and no leather padding is necessary, the padding market is gonna crash.

And the armor is gonna be uncomfortable.....maybe there will be a market for soothing balms and rash creams? lol

Now Maev, you know better than to go giving Maddoc and Absor ideas! Next thing you know, they'll invent a new tradeskill called Cosmetics! ... or maybe just make those into alchemy combines and require that you carry at least one on you at all times. If you run out, the armor pops off and can't be equipped until you get more. < evil grin >

Durn it ... now I am giving them ideas. BAD Kyros!

And I could be wrong about the spells for the water, they may have made a last minute change, but from what I saw it was going to be for sale. So could go wither way.

The books say what the dropped parts are

I've made leather and plate woodelf cultural on beta, and cannot make chain.. I've tried every equivalent combine with what the vendor had, with threads, mithril bricks, with molds & patterns, in forge, in sewing kit. Nada.

              Anyone succeeded with making Chain?

Didn't find it. I'm guessing it is in the book that was around in the beginning that is no longer around =)

EDIT: nm, found them. Was looking on the temp cultural dwarven npc's =)

it is prety much the same as plate but instead of sheets just use the bars (so 1 to 3 less steps (making the 1-3 sheets))

there is no bricks to chain recipie, they just use bricks. (at least as of last time I could check in beta)
