  • Crazy i know. But it seems to work for me.

Ok I know that im probably gonna get bonked for this but i thought id share anyway. Ive been in everquest for a while and ive been trying to make the rng on the loot tables work for me. After much experimenting heres what i have found out. 1. Height makes a difference. There are several places where if you are too far above/ below what is considered level ground then you wont get the particular item you are searching for. As an example i turn your attention to the isle of sisters. If you are killing the lovely elves for thier blood for temper components then killing them on top of the island is not a good idea. Out of all the times ive hunted there i havent got one single blood if they made it too high on the island before i finished them off. 2. If you face slightly off east then you stand a better chance of getting the item you are looking for.1 to 3 lines on your compass is about right. I do better on the north side of east than the south side of east. Other than that im sure you all have your favorite sweet spots for getting components. Give it a try and if it dosent work for you then go back to your old way, you wont have lost anything. Sigh ok let the bonking commence. Ow ouch oof ungh erk

    Didn't want to disappoint you.

Anyway, my belief is that mobs loot is determined when it spawns not when it is killed. So allowing the mobs to move to a certain spot before killing them should not impact the loot they drop. Perhaps someone can corroborate this for me.

For a minute, I thought you were going to say that standing waaaaaay above the forge (or whatever container) was helping you. Glad that it didn't go there!

Okay, I wasn't going to tell anybody, but...

If you use a blunt weapon you stand a better chance of not ruining the pelts of the animals you slay.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I remember Verant (ya, that far back) confirming what Boleslav said. Loot is determined at spawn.

Some stuff has (had?) a level restriction for looting and I think they said that is checked at loot time and removed if the looter is too high. (Is that still in game? haven't heard/thought about it in ages.)

Trivial Loot Code. I recall it being implemented on FV server and in certain zones on all other servers. Not sure if they eventually got rid of it but it shouldn't be a problem at large.

Yeah, loot being decided at spawn time is pretty solid, especially if you take weapons into consideration. For example you can see if the Lord in Sky is holding the Wingblade as soon as he pops. You can see if Shin Lord has Ghoul Bane. Also evident in non-weapon situations such as shard wurms glowing from the light effect if they are holding a bile, or fire beetles that will glow if they are holding an eye on their table. Yeah, determined on spawn, not kill. At least in most instances (special triv loot code exceptions).

Why did the ranger cross the road?

            Looting Time

There's one other reason I have for believing that loot is determined at spawn time. There has to be loot listed for a mob while it's walking around for those who can loot it before it dies. I know a number of rogues who have crept up on King Tormax and company and tapped a vial of blood without a big fuss.

Trivial Loot Code was removed from all the servers except Firiona. (Not sure about Firiona.) But when it was in place, it gave a message indicating that kill was trivial to you, so you knew you had lost out on potential loot off a given mob due to your level. You would know if you were losing items to TLC.

And yes, we've been told that loot is determined at spawn. So where a mob spawns might influence what it drops; where (or how/when/why/with who) you kill it has no effect.

Yeah, TLC is still on FV server. However, I still don't think they've fixed the raid bug that gets around it.

Oh! don't get me wrong! Even though I "know" something to be absolute, indisputable, scientifically provable, inarguable fact, it doesn't stop me from trying a little superstition given the right circumstances.

When I really, really, really need a combine, I still wink left eye , then the right, stand up, twist around 3 times , get back up ('cause I fall over from being dizzy ), hold my tongue between my teeth on the left side, stand on my head ,line up my mouse over the combine button, close my eyes , then CLICK!

And usually end up complaining about Bistlebane being annoyed a halfling chose to follow Rallos Zek

If I ever have call to go pick on the Sisters, I'll prolly try your theory - just in case.
