  • Vendor Diving Contest

Since Test Server has been absolutely worthless lately, I decided to play around making an alt ranger on another server. (yes, another one, this makes my 3rd). Its Splunch on Povar if you want to say hi.

Since ive been playing for a couple years and i know tradeskills and items so well, its insanely easy to make loads of plat quickly just from vendor diving.

So i thought id make a little contest for all you 'pro divers' out there.

    Contest rules are simple:

    1. Make a new character, any race/class on a server you dont already have a character on.
    2. Make 10kp (10,000 plat) in the shortest ammount of time. (/played)
    3. Your main toon/diver must be your bazaar trader. No diving while you sell on a second account!
    4. Use vendor diving, selling buffs or flipping. No begging, getting loans from friends and only minimal plat made from actual hunting.
    5. Your character should be no higher than level 10.

The person who has 10kp in *cash* in the shortest time /played by January 30th, 2005 will be declared the winner.

Theres no prize, so theres no incentive to cheat. This is strictly for fun.

Screenshots would be keen, but not needed. Just post your name, class/race, level, and /played time the moment you hit 10k.

Also, when you post your time, give us a list of the interesting finds/sales you made, where you dove, where you found stuff etc... any interesting information you feel like sharing.

    Have fun!

    Luck of the Draw

The only problem I see with a particular plat target is that one lucky draw can win. I created an ogre shaman on my account, for the express purpose of muling bricks of acrylia and velium, and walked him across the Feerrott to the book. I bounced to New Tanaan, walked to the bank, did some setup and grabbed a few plat, and walked over to the gnome in the pottery barn for deluxe toolboxes. I bought the toolboxes, scanned his stock, and found slugworms, which I bought for coppers.

Total played time would have been ten minutes plus the time it took me to /shout "slugworms for 10K!" and answer a thousand tells.

Perhaps it'd be better to have people make a list of what they scored over a span of /played time, and compare it to others, or some such.

or maybe do an average of plat made in number of hours played. Highest wins.

It's a nifty idea nonetheless. Anyone going to try it? I don't know the bazaar market that well outside of my own little Ranger world, so I'm not sure I'd be that good at it.

Along those same lines, what other items are considered real vendor finds? I've never even heard of Slugworms, yet someone mentioned them sellign for 10k? There must be more out there that has a high buy/sell ratio, any suggestions?

Fun idea. But I would suggest changing the winner to simply the one with the most plat by a certain date. I consider 20k in a week a bad week, so 10k isn't much challenge. And, that would help get around the problem of one good find the first hour blowing the contest.

Well, the first week might be a bit slow, but not necessarily. Merchants sell the OOW armor quest drops for 1cp each. Some sell better than others, but i've sold them for between 250 and 5k.

Silk thread also provides a nice starter income for merchant mining at just 10pp each if you're in a hurry to sell. More if you are just a bit patient.

Merchants in the newb areas are my main source for quality hides, which sell at a nice profit

Swirling Shadows from Shadeweavers are another nice profit from a low level mob - Watch for these while farming the silks off the little worms.

Start with a just a couple hours farming and it doesn't take long to build a cash base for serious mining.

interesting idea - i'd be more interested in seeing the lists of what others are selling - that alone would be a great prize.

As for actually doing this - i'll have to pass. My own server (terris-thule) is losing players like water thru a screen. So I'm not feeling much motivation for anything.

Yeah, one lucky slugworms would skew things, tho its still amazingly rare as most people know what that stuff is for now.

And besides, this is just for fun, and theres no prizes. How about there be other winner categories like 'Weirdest find' and 'Biggest Score'?

                        10 minutes.

Created chanter toon. Opened some chests in tutorial to get a few plat to start (got to love those bows). Went to pok. Checked venders. Found Metallic Drake Scales for 1 pp and change. Sold to /barter toon for 15k.

What about doing noob quests for cash? Ice goblin necklaces in Halas or bone chips in Kaladim comes to mind:-)

I've got a number of folks on my server looking out for crystalised sulfur for me. One lucky lvl 41 monk on my server who was doing this for me found two discordant scoria on a vendor, and sold them for 60kp each within 30mins. I suspect he wins this competition hands down.

When he told me of his good fortune, I thought he would give me the 10 sulfurs he's found for free, by way of thank you for setting him off vendor mining in the first place, but no, the jammy bugger still wanted 1kp each for em.

I'm just returning after a year and a half gone. I always loved vendor mining when that could be done, but never did much vendor diving once the vendors changed. I would love to try this. Would anyone be willing to share a list of items to look for?
