  • Salvage bug?

The past couple of days I've done a lot of tradeskilling (groups are increasingly hard to come by), and I'm convinced that Salvage is bugged. It works great, as far as returning items upon failure, but about half the time, it "leaves" an item on my cursor where there is no item, and then it crashes me to Server Select screen.

This happened 3 times in 5 combines last night making Earthweave gear, and once in 3 combines the day before making a GoD sword. Each time, when I finally logged back in (after rebooting usually, in order to drive the LD character off the server) there would be an item on my cursor, but before I crashed, you couldn't see the item there, nor would it let me drop anything into auto-inventory.

Anyone else having this problem? I sent a /bug yesterday, but given that you never hear any feedback from /bugs, I'm curious.

The only time I ave had this happen is when I use the new UI and am working on a new recipe. If it is a recipe I have already "learned" it never happens.

Yep have it happen to me about half the time I get a salvage while in experiment mode. If I am using the recipie through the interface as mentioned above, it seems to work fine.

Ditto, has happened to me on several occasions exactly like Allayne & Karim have described it. I have /bugged it 3 times at least.

OK, an update. It happened again, just like this.

I was making a new piece of LDoN armor with some Temper components I had scrounged off of the Magus (Ice Lichen in EF). Small Frosted Breastplate. The combine failed & I salvaged the temper & padding. These 2 components were "left in inventory" and did Not appear on my cursor. I left the forge experiment window open & began to click-drag the components back into the forge. I had placed the padding, temper, mold, & 1 folded sheet in the forge, when I picked up a second folded sheet & BOOM. Crashed to desktop. This was in the "lizard" forge in the western traders building in PoK.

When I logged back on a few minutes later, the items I had placed in the forge were gone. I was totally siezed up so it was necessary to restart my computer.

I bugged it & went on smithing with no screwups for about 10 more combines. I specifically chose experiment & unknown recipies. My next failure with salvage (1 sheet of metal on a 3 sheet combine) had me curious so I again, left the empty forge open, & began to click drag components over. I consecutively picked up another sheet of metal after having just done so & crashed to desktop again.

Here is my idea: The system crash so far can be traced to the following criteria:

          Combine failure
          Sucessful salvage
          Stationary PoK t-skill container
          Leaving the T-skill container open
Picking up a second "stacked" component
          > trivial combine (207skill vs. 212triv)

This is my only char. with salvage. It am going to try to reproduce this failure with tailoring since I have the components saved to make a run through Wu's. Current skill is 118. I will use the loom in PoK, because I have only had this occur in PoK, using a stationary t-skill container in that zone. I am certain I've never experienced in any other zone & never in a portable container.

          Will post the results.

I can confirm that 5 of these 6 were the same for my combines: I was making Earthweave armor at the time (so trivial over my skill, even at 252), I got combine failure, got successful salvage (if I recall correctly, the first success saved the cloth pattern (lol) and the second saved the "temper"), I was using the lower stationary loom in the tailoring shop in PoK, I was in "experiment" mode, left the loom open.

The only part I can't definitely confirm is that I was trying to pick up a stacked component. It is entirely possible that I was, since all of the items for those combines stack, but I just can't say for sure that I was pulling from a stack at the time.

Nonetheless, that looks like a good list.

Thanks for the info on this, guys. I'm passing this on to the dev who did Salvage.

Any updates on this? I am still having the same issues when using the experiment mode.

I had the same problem when doing Pure Enchanted Velium Bar (Smithing, Trivial > 300), which can't be learned in the new UI, so must be combined in "Experiment" mode. After crashing quite a few times, I learned to back away from the forge whenever I salvaged successfully to remove the problem, so this seems to fit all the conditions listed above, as well.

I have done a complete file check all zones checked excpet legends and all the languages. I reinstalled it on my secondary and third computer just to see if that would fix it and same problems. I have default UI. When in experimenting mode it crashes me, sometimes it takes like 3-4 combines in that mode.

Heres the exact process then crash. Open the brewing thingy next to Dray in Abysmal Sea, insert 3malts 2shortbeers 1cask 1waterflask 1yeast.(that makes minotaur hers brew) clikc combine and fail.....you recover a waterflask it says. On myt cursor there will be the cask which you get back no matter what, and 2 BOTTLES(empty bottles). I then click the cask back in the brewing thingy and drop the empty bottles in to autoinventory. Typically this is where it crashes on this next step. I then click another component to insert back in to the brewing device from inventory (ex. malt) and it makes the sound of the brewing window closing and then kicks me to server sselect. Sometimes I combine it 3 times and then it crashes, prolly cause salvage didnt save anything.

I cant find anywhere where it says they are fixing this.

it almost sounds like a ui or bag slot mod problem, I crashed once in my custom ui after salvaging in experimental mode with a forge, never a problem after using default ui again.
