  • Second tradeskill post 200 Question

I have a GM potter of some 240+ skill.

I know you need the aa crafting mastery skill to take a second craft post 200 if you already have one 201+.

I've taken smithing to 200. And out of curiosity, thought I would continue a couple more attempts for skill ups w/o the aa crafting mastery.

I assumed it would give me back "you must train the aa ability", or even "you have reached your cap on smithing", etc. I'm not going to continue smithing until i have the aa ability, but is this a bug? I just assumed it would have said something.

Honestly, I felt like there was a .000001 chance it might continue to 201, w/o the aa ability, someone /slap me and tell me I'm wrong.

    Thanks for any input.

    Your wrong.

Sorry, but better to know the truth up front Its just not telling you anything, the same way people try to train research for ever and ever without realizing there is a skill cap.

I think it is essentially due to the age of the tradeskill capping system. 200 was the cap for the longest time*. Then they let you take *one* tradeskill over 200, to 250. The "one to 250" aspect had no documentation in official resources (beyond the transient patch message, if that), and no ingame messages or the like.

The New Tanaan Crafting Mastery, which was added shortly before PoP, made multiple 201+ skills possible, but the old mysterious tell-you-nothing system is what remained. Its essentially an artifact of an earlier time in EQ, when the game was scant on information about its mechanics and information on caps and whatnot were only found through personal experimentation and "spoiler" sites like this one.

*I'm dating myself by this, as I know there were different rules even earlier as well as tradeskills that couldn't even get to 200 due to lack of recipes trivialling that high. However, all-cap-at-200 is where my knowledge starts

Well, for all the system 'knows' you are just combining to make the item, not skill up.

Only if the combine is trivial at your skill do you get a message stating that you can no longer increase you skills from this recipe.
