  • Dye for Robes Etc...

Hello, 1st time poster here, so I apologize if this has been asked before. Tried the Search Feature to no avail, I am looking for the "How to" of dyeing my robe, etc. Looking for components and such and maybe a bit of insight on how to actually do it. Any info is greatly appreciated or a point in the correct direction on these forums, if there is such a place.

Great site here, thank you kindly for your time.

    Welcome to EQTC.

The item you're looking for is Prismatic Dye. You can find it by searching the main site (Click the logo in the upper left corner to get there or use the Main Site Search button). The recipe is there.

You use Dyes (provided you have the LoY expansion) from your inventory screen.

Thank you so much Lothay, I was messing with the dyes in inventory a bit last night. Just wasnt quite sure on how to actually do it hehe. I will check it out, one last question, is it reversable once you dye an item?

Thank you again for the quick response

I'm going to expand on this a bit.

You can buy the components for "A Vial of Prismatic Dye" in the lighthouse at Gunthak. You need a prism shard, glaze lacquer, a firing sheet and an unfired dye vial, all sold by the Erudite vendor there. Total cost for me per set has run about 31 PP with steins equipped. You can also sometimes buy finished Vials in the bazaar - on my server those run 40 to 50 pp each.

You need to fire the vial in a kiln. Then go to the brew barrel. (Both kiln and brew barrel are at the little houses outside the Gunthak lighthouse, so it's easiest to just do all this right there)

Brew the shard and lacquer together to make prismatic dye. Then put the vial in the barrel with the dye, and you get the vial of prismatic dye.

These steps CAN all fail. (So annoying to buy exactly 5 of each and end up having to run back to buy one or two more of things on failures - another reason to not leave Gunthak before doing the combines.)

Once you have your Vial of Prismatic Dye in your inventory, open your inventory screen and click DYE.

This will bring your image up on screen, along with your inventory window and the dye window. Close your inventory screen - it's just in the way.

The dyes are cued by color. Keep in mind that some items have their own natural color which influences the final shade. You can click one of the pre set colors and then slide the red, green, or blue sliders til you get a more custom color that you like. You do have to hit "accept" to see your clothes in the new color. It isn't final til you hit SAVE DYE on the dye window.

As you are changing things, you will see a counter at the bottom of the dye screen telling you how many reagents you need. That indicates the number of dye vials.

If you find the perfect color while sliding things around, make a note of the numeric values listed in the color window. For example, I have a coral shaded bodice that is red 240, green 75, blue 140. That way if I want my sleeves or skirt to match, I can just plug those numbers in and take a look. Now, my skirt is 'naturally' brown, so that coral shade doesn't look quite the same when the same dye numbers are input, but it coordinates well enough to suit me. Once you have all your pieces the colors you want, SAVE DYE to make the settings permanent. You can do one bit at a time, or all at once, it's up to you.

The dye affects the 'body part' you have applied it to, so even if you change out your equipment the item will still be 'colored' with the color you have over that area. My skirt for example, if I got one that didn't have a base tint, would change shade but still have that coral tone input. You can remove your dye by opening the dye window and resetting the dye square to clear, and then saving. You would have to have another dye vial to change to a new color.

You can change colors as often as you like, as far as I know.

          Hope that helps!

Yup! You sure can fail on these and its really annoying. I failed two in four tries with both my pottery skill and brewing at 252 (about 180 points above the trivial).

Also, to reset colors as I recall the trick is to set all of the color values to 255 (pure white).
